Abel Ogwuche in for banned Flying Eagles skipper Bameyi – Score Nigeria
Sweden-based defender Abel Ogwuche will be the direct replacement for suspended Flying Eagles captain Daniel Bameyi for Thursday’s all-important U20 AFCON quarterfinal against Uganda.
SCORENigeria has already reported that Bameyi will miss Thursday’s game, which has a 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup ticket riding on it, after he picked up his second booking in the group stage of the tournament against Mozambique.
“Ogwuche will play alongside Benjamin Frederick in central defence with Bameyi suspended,” a team official informed SCORENigeria
Ogwuche has a physical presence and he is good aerially.
Coach Ladan Bosso had initially considered Trelleborgs FF ace Ogwuche to partner Bameyi in the heart of the defence before he eventually opted for Benjamin Frederick after he built a great understanding with the Flying Eagles in training camp since last year.
Nigeria take on the Young Cranes of Uganda Thursday by 6pm in Ismailia with the winners advancing to the U20 AFCON semifinal and automatically booking a ticket to the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup in Indonesia in May.
