Argentina vs Croatia World Cup 2022 Prediction
Messi’s dream to lift the World Cup remains a possibility after Argentina knocked out the Netherlands on penalties in what was a heated Quarter-Final. The South Americans won’t be facing Brazil as most expected because Croatia knocked out the competition favourites on penalties following a 1-1 draw and now the two countries meet at the World Cup once again on the 13th of December at 19:00 GMT.
Argentina to Win
The head-to-head record between these two countries is level after five encounters with each team claiming two wins, a draw and two defeats. Croatia beat Argentina 3-0 at the last World Cup but we’re backing Messi and co to have their revenge in Qatar. Argentina look very good going forward and up until the final moments against the Dutch, they were strong at the back as well. Croatia don’t offer as much of a goal threat as the Dutch but should be harder to break down. Still, we expect the South Americans to progress through to the final.
Lionel Messi to Score
Messi might not be the player he once was but he still has more quality than most players on any football field as we saw when he slotted a fantastic through-ball to Fernandez to score the opening goal against the Netherlands. Messi also scored a penalty in that game to take him onto 3-goals for the tournament and we’re backing the 35-year-old to find a way to score against Croatia in the Semi-Finals.

It’s time to take a look at the very latest odds ahead of tomorrow’s 2022 World Cup Semi-Final between Argentina and Croatia,
Argentina odds: 11/13 (1.85) – 54.2 %
Draw odds: 27/11 (3.45) – 28.9%
Croatia odds: 22/5 (5.40) – 18.5%
As you can see, Argentina head into the first Semi-Final as the clear favourite with the bookmakers but that won’t bother a resilient Croatia side that will be prepared to defend their penalty area to the very last minute and try to force the game into extra-time and penalties.
It looks like the bookmakers are expecting a low-scoring 90-minutes as the odds on Over 2.5 Goals being scored currently stand at 32/21 which works out at only 39.6% probability. With that in mind, you won’t be surprised by the Both Teams to Score odds of 13/10 (43.5%) and the BTTS – No odds of 9/13 (59.1%).
Croatia out to upset the odds once moreArgentina
Argentina looked to have their Quarter-Final match all tied up as the game entered its final stages. A goal from Molina and a Messi penalty had put the favourites 2-0 up with just 17-minutes left on the clock but van Gaal sent on his secret weapon, Weghorst, who first headed home to make it 2-1 in the 83rd-minute and then finished neatly with virtually the last touch in stoppage-time to take the game into extra-time. Argentina looked stunned but managed to hold on through the 30-minutes of extra-time to see the game decided by a penalty shout-out. Van Dijk and Berghuis both missed for the Dutch and although Fernandez fired his spot-kick wide for Argentina, Lautaro Martinez scored his to take Argentina into the Semi-Finals.
Predicted Lineup: Martinez (GK), Molina, Romero, Otamendi, Tagliafico, Fernandez, De Paul, Mac Allister, Di Maria, Messi & Alvarez
Croatia
Croatia knew they were going to have to frustrate Brazil if they were going to get through the toughest of Quater-Final draws. The Europeans took the game to Neymar and co who struggled to get into the game. The match ended up goalless after 90-minutes but it looked like Brazil had done enough to win the game when Neymar fired the ball home in the 105th-minute. However, Croatia never gave up and in the 117th-minute, Petkovic scored his first international goal in over 2-years, with the aid of a deflection, to take the game into a penalty shoot-out. Croatia scored each of their opening four penalties and Brazil saw Rodrygo and Marquinhos miss which meant that the Europeans had succeeded in their mission to upset the odds, leaving the South Americans feeling stupid for not putting Neymar higher up the order of takers.
Predicted Lineup: Livakovic (GK), Juranovic, Gvardiol, Lovren, Sosa, Modric, Brozovic, Kovacic, Pasalic, Kramaric & Perisic
