Breaking: Messi named Best FIFA Men’s Player of 2022

Argentina’s football star, Lionel Messi has been named Best FIFA Men’s player of 2022 after his exploit at the World Cup.

Messi defeated Paris St-Germain team-mate Kylian Mbappe, and Real Madrid star, Karim Benzema to win a big prize.

Speaking on the award, the PSG star said he had been lucky to achieve his dream, describing the award as amazing.

“Wow, it’s amazing. It’s been a tremendous year and it’s an honour for me to be here tonight and win this award.

“Without my team-mates, I wouldn’t be here. I achieved the dream I had been hoping for for so long. Very few people can achieve that and I have been lucky to do so.”

Messi single-handedly helped Argentina to win the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, making him one of the greatest of all time in football history.

He was the best player of the tournament and narrowly lost the golden boot to Mbappe, but won the golden ball.

Alexia Putellas who plays for Barcelona and Spain was named Best FIFA Women’s player for 2022, winning the award for the second time.

She won the league with Barcelona in 2021-22 and at the age of 29, the midfielder is widely regarded as one of the best players in women’s football.
