Cavani opens up on Solskjaer ‘decisions’ amid his lack of game time at Man Utd

Edinson Cavani has opened up on his lack of game time at Manchester United under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Uruguay striker has started one match this season for the Red Devils and has made a total of four appearances so far, scoring zero times.

Cavani could have been the main man up front at Old Trafford this season, however, the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo threw a spanner in the works.

Ronaldo? Townsend is cleverest piece of transfer business

The former Napoli man lost his No. 7 shirt after Ronaldo’s arrival and is now limited to scarce playing time as the Portugal superstar will be one of the first names on the team sheet.

Having said that, the Portugal superstar was benched in United’s last match against Everton as Solskjaer gave Cavani the nod.

A decision that has been criticised by club legend Sir Alex Ferguson, who said: “You should always start with your best players.”

Despite starting against Everton, it is widely expected that Ronaldo is Solskjaer’s first-choice striker.

Opening up on his struggles in recent months, Cavani told El Observador: “In football, you have to always be ready. It’s one of the keys at the top level.

“Sometimes you play more, sometimes you play less, managers make decisions, but that doesn’t stop the work to always be competitive.

“The league has just started and I have needed to be, not quite like last year, but I’m there to be a part of it.”

When asked what he made of Ronaldo joining the club, he said: “Those are things that happen, a lot of debate is created, but football is football and you don’t have to turn it around too much, it’s not because one or the other is there.

“The important thing is to be prepared for when it’s your turn, you always want to play, he wants to be there forever, but that is not going to change my way of thinking or acting.”

Also, Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness) claim that they have spoken to someone in Cavani’s ‘entourage’ about a potential move in the January window.

When asked whether a move to Real Madrid in the winter transfer window would be possible, they replied: “perhaps”.
