Chelsea star Andreas Christensen confirms contract talks; his future ‘looks good’ at the club

Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen has suggested that his future “looks good” as he confirms that he is in talks to extend his contract at the club.

The defender played for Brondby as an academy player before he joined Chelsea in 2013.

Christensen made his senior debut for the Blues in 2014 and he has been a regular in their first team since the 2017/18 season.

A proper European Super League can be the change we all need

The defender was part of the side that beat Man City in the 2020/21 Champions League final and he has been a key player under Thomas Tuchel.

The 25-year-old’s current contract expires in 2022. Reports emerged last month which suggested that the two parties had agreed new terms.

Christensen has spoken about his future in an interview that has been cited by The Daily Mail. He insisted that he is “very happy” at Chelsea:

“I know a lot is being said right now. I can’t say too much, but I think it looks good.

“We have won the Champions League and the Super Cup. I am very happy to be at this club and feel Chelsea are the right place to be in England.

“I know Thomas Tuchel believes in me. I have also played a big role since he came.

“I had a very difficult period under [Frank] Lampard, shortly before he was fired. Now luckily it’s going the right way for me. Things can go fast in this world. The most important thing is just that I have never given up.

‘”It is super cool to play a major part, and be in the thick of things. But, as I have experienced, things can change quickly. Suddenly some other players can perform well or be given a chance, and then I can end up in the cold again.”

Elsewhere, Marcos Alonso has backed new Chelsea signing Saul Niguez to succeed in the Premier League:

“I know Saul from the national team, and also we shared a manager from when we were in the Real Madrid academy.

“He’s a great player. His conditions are going to be good for the Premier League. He is strong physically, he is very good in the air, and those are things you need when you move to this league.

“He is ready to kick off and hopefully we can take advantage of his qualities and he will be of great help to the team, because it’s going to be a long year, with a lot of competitions.”
