Eguavoen Effect comes to play for Onyekuru, Moses Simon to shine in Super Eagles training – Score Nigeria

Wingers Henry Onyekuru and Moses Simon both scored and caught the eye as the Super Eagles stepped up training for Tuesday’s opening AFCON Group D cracker against Egypt.

Caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen is a big fan of wing play and he must have been very pleased with both Onyekuru and Moses Simon, who felled what could be considered the ‘A’ team in a two-sided practice match Saturday evening.

The ‘A’ team started the warm-up against Cameroonian club Cotonsport Friday with the only change being Maduka Okoye as he was replaced by Francis Uzoho.

Curiously, Okoye, who was the Eagles No 1 under Gernot Rohr, did not feature in the practice game.

Kenneth Omeruo again paired William Ekong in the heart of the back four with Ola Aina and Zaidu Sanusi the full backs.

In midfield were Wilfred Ndidi, Joe Aribo, Chidera Ejuke with skipper Ahmed Musa and Peter Olayinka the wingers.

Taiwo Awoniyi spearheaded the attack with the support of Kelechi Iheanacho.

The Union Berlin striker, who has taken the Bundesliga by storm this season, again struggled to impress and this could be a concern for Eguavoen.

Daniel Akpeyi and John Noble shared the goalkeeping duties for the ‘B’ team that paraded Alex Iwobi, Samuel Chukwueze, Kelechi Nwakali as well as Onyekuru, a late replacement for Victor Osimhen, and Moses Simon.
