EPL: He wants to move – McAvennie on why Man Utd star plays better

Former West Ham United star Frank McAvennie has said that Manchester United striker Anthony Martial is playing well for the club to attract other clubs to sign him.

He said the Frenchman is only aiming to secure a permanent move away from Old Trafford ahead of the upcoming 2023-24 season.

The 27-year-old France international has blown hot and cold under Erik ten Hag this campaign, starting 13 games due to injuries, and scoring seven goals and three assists.

Due to his inconsistency, Martial is on the list of 15 stars who could be offloaded this summer, according to reports in England.

McAvennie was asked if the France international could be a regular starter at Old Trafford and the former Premier League star told Football Insider: “No. He has been doing well the last couple of games because [Marcus] Rashford has not been playing.

“He has been playing better but it is coming to the end of the season, maybe he is playing better because he wants a move.

“Martial, no matter how talented he is, has not been doing it [putting in a hundred effort].”
