Fresh claims shed new light on Liverpool move for Europa League star

Fresh claims shed new light on Liverpool move for Europa League star

Liverpool in fact have no interest in Olympiacos defender Pape Abou Cisse after recent links with a move for him to Anfield, according to a fresh report.

Speculation on Friday claimed that the Reds want to bolster their back line with the Senegal international. Indeed, he became the second Olympiacos star to reportedly emerge as a Liverpool target in a week.

The Anfield club are also supposedly keeping a close eye on midfielder Aguibou Camara.

Cisse would be joining up with international colleague Sadio Mane if he made the move to Liverpool.

According to a fresh report from Sportime, though, Jurgen Klopp’s side have no interest in signing the 26-year-old.

The centre-back has made a fine start to the season, including in the Europa League.

He has played in both Olympiacos games as they beat Royal Antwerp 2-1 before defeating Fenerbahce 3-0. Liverpool scouts reportedly watched Cisse in the latter match.

Overall, he has made 13 appearances and chipped in with two goals this campaign.

Cisse signed for Olympiacos in 2017, but his recent rise comes after loan spells at AC Ajaccio and Saint-Etienne.

Liverpool have kept transfer tabs on Olympiacos following their capture of left-back Kostas Tsimikas. The Greece international acts as deputy to Andy Robertson, but has struggled for game time.

Nevertheless, he impressed earlier this season when he got his chance after an injury to Robertson.

As for a potential new centre-back arrival in Cisse, the Daily Mail’s initial report of Liverpool interest claimed that they wanted more protection in their back line.

The Reds learned first-hand last season how quickly a title challenge can unravel without a stable defence, when they lost their three senior options to injury.

As such, they signed Ibrahima Konate this summer alongside welcoming back Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip. They also handed Nathaniel Phillips a new contract.
Liverpool, Man Utd eye attacker

Elsewhere, Liverpool and Manchester United are reported to have joined the hunt for Club Brugge attacker Charles De Ketelaere.

The centre-forward, who can also play in a variety of other attacking positions, has had an impressive season so far.

Indeed, he scored his first Belgium goal on Sunday in the Nations League third-place play-off, only his second cap.

Manchester City already reportedly have eyes on De Ketelaere, but now Liverpool and United have shown interest.
