FW Predictions for Fulham vs Southampton

Fulham will be looking to pick up where they left off against Crystal Palace on Boxing Day where Silva’s men ran out comfortable 3-0 winners. Southampton sit bottom of the Premier League following their 3-1 home defeat against south coast rivals Brighton and could really do with a victory this weekend.

Fulham to Win

We’re backing Fulham to add to Southampton’s woes on New Year’s Eve by securing all 3pts against the division’s bottom club, even though the Cottagers have only won one of their last six matches against the Saints in league and cup. Fulham sit 10pts and 11 places above Southampton in the league table and the hosts have won two of their last five league games, while the Saints have lost four of their last six matches in all competitions.

Both Teams to Score

Both teams scored when these two sides last locked horns and we’re predicting more of the same this weekend. Both teams have found the back of the net in four of Fulham’s last six competitive and non-competitive matches and each of Southampton’s last five outings have ended the same way, so you can see why we’re not backing either defence to keep their clean sheet intact on New Year’s Eve.

What will the lineups be for this New Year’s Eve fixture?Fulham

Fulham took the lead away at Crystal Palace via a 31st-minute effort from De Cordova-Reid after good work from Mitrovic. Crystal Palace had defender Mitchell sent-off in the 34th-minute and Fulham started to really control the possession from that point on. In the 57th-minute, the Eagles were reduced to 9-men when Tomkins picked up his second booking of the match and when Ream made it 2-0 in the 71st-minute, the game was over. Fulham still found the time to score a third goal through Mitrovic in the 80th-minute, wrapping up a 3-0 victory. The hosts could still be without Solomon, Kurzawa and Kebano this weekend due to injury.

Predicted Lineup: Leno (GK), Ream, Tete, Diop, Robinson, Pereira, Palhinha, Reed, Willian, De Cordova-Reid & Mitrović

Southampton took on Brighton at St Mary’s last time out where a goal from their former hero, Adam Lallana, put the Seagulls in front in the 14th-minute. An own goal from Perraud put Brighton 2-0 up at half-time and in the 56th-minute, March added a third goal. Southampton did manage to pull a goal back through their captain Ward-Prowse in the 73rd-minute but it proved to be little more than a consolation. Livramento, Lavia, Larios, Walcott and McCarthy could all miss the trip to the capital this weekend through injury.

Predicted Lineup: Bazunu (GK), Perraud, Lyanco, Walker-Peters, Salisu, Elyounoussi, Ward-Prowse, Diallo, Djenepo, Adams & Edozie

Starting Lineups

Player to Watch: Bobby De Cordova-Reid

Bobby De Cordova-Reid has been at Fulham since 2019 and has played a key role in Fulham’s last two returns to the Premier League.

The 29-year-old Jamaican international is underrated for what he actually brings to this Fulham side and the Cottagers will be happy to keep things that way as it means nobody will try to sign him.

Playing in attacking midfield or up-front, De Cordova-Reid is a very selfless player that does a lot of the dirty work and hard running to allow space for the likes of Mitrovic to capitalise on. With 4-goals in the Premier League this season, De Cordova-Reid is Fulham’s second-highest scorer and will likely surpass his total of 5-goals scored in Fulham’s last Premier League campaign.

De Cordova-Reid was on target in Fulham’s last game against Crystal Palace, he’s a very clever player who finds space in the box and utilises his own skills to chip in with goals and assists for Fulham and we’re backing the Jaimcan attacker to play his role in another Fulham victory on New Year’s Eve.
