‘I feel lucky’ – Rashford replies Nigerian fan on pressure of being Man Utd’s number 10
Rashford answered questions from the Red Devils supporters across the globe, including three based in Nigeria.
Manchester United have a huge fan base in Nigeria largely due to their success on the pitch and the transfer of Odion Ighalo to Old Trafford last January convinced some fans to change the Premier League team they support.
United visited Nigeria while touring Africa in 2008 and several of their fans were at the National Stadium in Abuja to watch them beat Portsmouth 2-1 in a pre-season friendly.
Rashford was asked by a Nigerian fan, Lucky A how he coped with the pressure of being Manchester United’s number 10.
He answered : “I think it’s ironic your name is Lucky because I feel lucky. I feel privileged to wear this shirt that has been worn by so many great players in United’s history.
“You know, for me, I don’t feel the pressure. It’s just about carrying on following in people’s footsteps and people’s journeys really.
“But I’m my own player. I do things my way. I’m going to improve in my own way, which is obviously slightly different to the other players.
“They all have different qualities and reached different heights in their careers. Hopefully, I can be here long enough to do that myself as well”.
Manchester United have in their youth team ranks Nigeria-eligible trio Shola Shoretire, Dillon Hoogewerf and Maximilano Oyedele.
