Leon Balogun celebrates first goal in 7 years – Score Nigeria
Defender Leon Balogun has said he is excited to score his first goal in seven years after he opened scoring to inspire the Super Eagles avenge a shock 1-0 loss to Central African Republic on the road to the 2022 World Cup.
In the 29th minute, the Rangers central defender popped up at the end of a long, searching ball by Chidozie Awaziem to break the deadlock in Douala, Cameroon, Sunday afternoon.
The unlikely goal scorer said afterwards: “My first goal in seven years!
“I have been looking forward so much to it and I am happy it finally came, and on a day like this.”
It was also an effort that made up for the mistake Balogun and William Ekong committed to let in Central African Republic striker Karl Namnganda score a famous winner against the Super Eagles last week.
On Sunday, Victor Osimhem doubled the Eagles lead in first half stoppage time to hand Nigeria a 2-0 win against Central African Republic.
