Man City make the first move in race for star also wanted by Man Utd

Man City chiefs will reportedly meet with agent Mino Raiola in January to discuss the signing of a key Borussia Dortmund player and Man Utd target.

The reigning Premier League champions spent £100m in the summer to land Jack Grealish from Aston Villa. The England international has got off to a decent start, registering two goals and two assists in his first ten matches.

Pep Guardiola’s are hoping to retain their league crown as well as compete in the Champions League this season. Club officials, however, are already looking ahead to next summer.

City have been linked with a number of top players recently. Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele is one apparent target. Reports in Spain state that Guardiola will use his good relations with the Catalan giants to sign Dembele next year.

They are also monitoring Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic. The 21-year-old looks set to be on the move after rejecting the offer of a contract extension.

However, The Times now claim that City have made their transfer priority known. They want Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, whatever the cost.

They will meet with Raiola in January to discuss the potential for a summer switch to the Etihad.

City could land the goalscorer for a cut-price fee too, as his £68m release clause activates in June.

The Times write that Guardiola is desperate to sign a new striker to replace Sergio Aguero. The Argentine left for Barcelona this summer and his successor is yet to be found.

Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus is at the club but now wants to play on the right, rather than down the middle.

City’s links with Haaland’s father, Alf-Inge, could prove important to the summer pursuit. The Norwegian played in Manchester between 2000 and 2003.

As a result, his son was pictured sporting a City shirt during his childhood. It’s hoped that the ace will return to England to lead Guardiola’s attack.

The news is a huge blow for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Man Utd. The Red Devils have been eyeing Haaland as a long-term replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, once the Portuguese decides to hang up his boots.

Man Utd now face the prospect of losing one of their biggest targets to their closest rivals. Club chiefs will have to act quickly if they are to win the race for Haaland’s signature.
Man City target will continue to reject move
Haaland is not the only Bundesliga talent being looked at by City. Reports have revealed their interest in Gladbach starlet Luca Netz.

He is an 18-year-old left-back who represents Germany U21 at international level. The defender is already a key part of Gladbach’s first team, having made five appearances this term.

Netz will not link up with Guardiola at City just now, although a transfer could occur in the future.

He said: “I think it’s nonsense to switch to Man City at such a young age. Even if I were to get another offer now, I would turn it down.

“I have a clear plan, and it’s simply too early for the Premier League. It’s important for me to play for Borussia, to gain experience and to develop steadily.

“Then we will see what happens in a few years.”
