Man Utd can land La Liga star if they repeat ‘dizzying offer’ as Mendes ‘knocks on necessary doors’

Man Utd will be able to land Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix if they repeat their rejected summer bid, according to reports.

The Red Devils are on the lookout for a new striker after they agreed to terminate Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract.

Ronaldo gave an interview to Piers Morgan in which he criticised the club, manager Erik ten Hag, senior executives, former players and more.

Man Utd saw no way back for the striker at Old Trafford and agreed to a mutually agreed termination, which will save them a lot of money over the next six months.

And Ten Hag will be hoping to use that money to invest in a new striker in the summer transfer window, despite a report yesterday insisting that the Man Utd board couldn’t promise him a signing in January.

Numerous forwards have been linked to Man Utd already ahead of the window with Cody Gakpo, Felix, Gancalo Ramos and Rafael Leao amongst the names thrown out there.

Atletico CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin recently revealed that Felix is frustrated about his lack of playing time at the club and wants to leave.

“[Joao Felix] is the biggest bet this club has taken in its history. I personally think he’s a top talent, a world-class player,” Gil Marin told TVE in November.

“For reasons it isn’t worth getting into – the relationship between him and the boss (Simeone), the minutes played, his motivation right now – it makes you think that the reasonable thing is that if there’s an option that’s good for the player, good for the club, we can look at it.

“I’d love him to stay personally, but I don’t think that’s the player’s idea.”

And now Spanish newspaper AS (via Sport Witness) are claiming that the Red Devils are in the mix to sign Atletico Madrid’s Felix this summer.

The report officially declares the ‘auction is open’ with Felix ‘determined to move’ as soon as possible as his agent Jorge Mendes goes ‘knocking on the necessary doors’.

Man Utd are mentioned as one option after they apparently made a ‘dizzying offer’ of €130m in the summer transfer window with Ten Hag eventually falling short of his target to bring in another striker in the summer.

AS reckon that the ‘significant salary’ saved from Ronaldo’s exit will give Man Utd some room to manoeuvre in the January transfer market with Atletico now ‘willing to listen’ to offers of €100m.

And the report finishes by insisting that the ‘bidding is on’ for Felix after he managed to ‘showcase his talents at the World Cup for Portugal.
