Man Utd player set for double snub in summer as manager decides he’ll ‘be allowed to leave’
Man Utd forward Wout Weghorst is set to be rejected twice this summer as the Dutchman “doesn’t fit into” Vincent Kompany’s plans at Burnley.
The striker only managed to score twice in 20 appearances at the end of the 2021/22 campaign as they suffered relegation to the Championship.
The £12m January signing was subsequently shipped off to Besiktas on loan and he was in stunning form at the start of this season. He netted nine goals in 18 outings for the Turkish side.
Erik ten Hag decided to bring in Weghorst as a short-term option for Man Utd in January after Cristiano Ronaldo left the club.
Weghorst has played an important role for Man Utd over the past couple of months but he has been criticised as he has only scored two goals in 22 appearances for the Premier League outfit.
The 30-year-old has slipped down the pecking order in recent games and he is unlikely to remain at United beyond this season. They are instead expected to spend big on a new forward with Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen among their reported targets.
Football Insider are now reporting that ‘Weghorst does not have a future at parent club Burnley despite their promotion to the Premier League’.
Burnley are the runaway league leaders at the top of the Championship under Man City legend Kompany.
The report claims ‘Weghorst will be allowed to leave the club as the 6ft 6in hitman doesn’t fit into the plans or style of Clarets boss Kompany’.

Earlier this week, The Sun reported that Besiktas ‘are lining up a second deal for Weghorst’. They add.
‘The Dutch star left Turkey halfway through a loan to grab the chance to play for the Red Devils.
‘But they are unlikely to try to keep him and Besiktas are among Turkish sides keen. Burnley would prefer a sale but a loan return to Istanbul looks most likely.’
Speaking at the start of this month, Man Utd legend Gary Neville argued that Weghorst is “doing his very best” but he “lacks quality” and is not good enough to play for the Premier League giants.
“He does play his part,” Neville said. “It’s a big issue.
“He doesn’t deserve to be criticised, I think he is doing his very best. He works as hard as he possibly can but he just lacks the quality that a player in that position should have at Manchester United.
“He’s filling in obviously with [Anthony] Martial being injured. [Cristiano] Ronaldo’s left. [Edinson] Cavani left at the start of the season.
“Manchester United don’t have a centre-forward, really.”
