Predictions and Betting Tips for Newcastle vs Leeds

Newcastle could move above Man City and into 2nd place in the Premier League table this weekend and we’re expecting Howe’s men to secure all 3pts at home to Leeds. The visitors could well end up in another relegation battle this season as they only sit a point above the bottom three as things stand.

Newcastle & Over 2.5 Goals

We’re backing Newcastle to beat Leeds just as they did when the pair last locked horns back in January. The hosts have won each of their last five competitive and non-competitive matches in all competitions and over 2.5 goals have been scored in three of their last four outings. At least three goals have also been scored in each of Leeds’ last five fixtures, three of which have ended in defeat.

What will the lineups be for this New Year’s Eve fixture?Newcastle

The Magpies dominated Leicester in their own backyard last time out, picking up a 3-0 victory on Boxing Day. An early penalty from Wood put the visitors in front and in the 7th-minute, Almiron fired in a second goal for Newcastle. It was 3-0 before the break, when Joelinton scored a rare goal in the 32nd-minute, effectively winning the game for the Toon Army. Shelvey, Isak, Wilson, Krafth and Dummett could all miss Saturday’s clash with Leeds.

Predicted Lineup – Pope (GK), Trippier, Schär, Burn, Botman, Almirón, Willock, Guimarães, Longstaff, Wood & Joelinton

Leeds

Leeds played host to title-challenging Man City in their last league game, going down 3-1 in the end. City got themselves three goals up before Struijk pulled a goal back for the hosts in the 73rd-minute but in the end, Leeds were beaten by the far better team. Sinisterra, Bamford, Gray and Dallas remain sidelined for the visitors this weekend due to injury but Adams returns to the side following a one-match suspension.

Predicted Lineup – Meslier (GK), Cooper, Koch, Kristensen, Struijk, Forshaw, Roca, Aaronson, Rodrigo, Greenwood & Gnonto

Starting Lineups

*Lineups are usually announced 1hr before kick-off

Player to Watch: Miguel Almiron

Newcastle’s Paraguayan midfielder is having the best season of his career and his new found goalscoring form could fire Newcastle back into European football.

Many worried that following the international break for the World Cup, Almiron’s form might be affected. However, the 28-year-old scored against Leicester last time out, his 5th-goal in his last eight games for the Magpies.

Almiron only needs one more goal in the Premier League to take him onto 10 league goals for the season and we wouldn’t be surprised to see the South American reach that tally on New Year’s Eve in front of the Newcastle fans.

Leeds play a very open and attacking style which should play right into the hands of the home side and Almiron who likes to find pockets of space in the opposition’s defence.
