Nice vs Lens Predictions, Odds, and Picks
Lens has been the biggest surprise in the first stage of the Ligue 1 season, but Nice is probably one of the biggest disappointments.
Under 2.5 Goals
It’s not a hard decision to make in this case. Nice is last in the league with the fewest matches that had more than two goals scored, and Lens is third last. Lens has the second-best defense in the league with only ten conceded goals, while Nice doesn’t allow many goals, but they score even less.
Draw
This is expected to be a hard-fought battle of teams that have different agendas. Lens is the second-ranked team in the league currently, while Nice is trying to figure out how to get out of the rut they are in and move towards the top five teams. They are eight points behind fifth-placed Lorient, but they hope that there are many more games to be played to recover what was lost in the first part of the season.

Lens are protecting their Champions League positionNice
Much has been said about Nice’s spending habits. They have a rich owner who didn’t waste time and money to bring good players to the team. Unfortunately for the club, it hasn’t worked out just yet. When you spend over £60m on new players, you are expected to contend at least for a place in some European competitions. But, Nice is far from those odds right now. Their goal difference shows how they misfired in the transfer market when buying attacking-minded players. They scored 15 goals in as many matches with 17 goals allowed. Andy Delort is their best scorer with five goals, but he has been stuck on that number for a while now. Nicolas Pepe was brought in from Arsenal but is still looking for his best form. The whole team lacks proper balance which is the responsibility of coach Lucien Favre. They played three matches in the training period, and they won only once, but they did score six goals in those matches conceding seven. Again, the lack of balance was the problem. Marcin Bulka is the only injury concern.
Nice’s probable starting 11: Schmeichel, Atal, Todibo, Dante, Lotomba, Boudaoui, Lemina, Ramsey, Diop, Pepe, Delort.
Lens
The consistency that Lens showed throughout the first 15 games of the season was outstanding. Losing only once is a success on its own, but the way this team is winning games, one would say, looking from the outside, that they are just like PSG. And, they wouldn’t be wrong at least in that aspect. They have the second most amount of wins with eleven, trailing only PSG, they have won five league matches in a row, and continued their terrific form in friendly matches winning all three of them. Their defending is as good as it can be, they conceded only ten goals, one more than PSG. Lens also proved themselves in the transfer market over the past summer when they brought Belgian forward Lois Openda who already became their best scorer with seven goals. The visitors are missing three players through injury, Adam Buksa, Jimmy Cabot, and Wuilker Parinez are unavailable.
Lens’ probable starting 11: Samba, Medina, Danso, Gradit, Machado, Abdul Samed, Fofana, Frankowski, Costa, Openda, Sotoca.
Starting lineups
Starting lineups are usually released 60 minutes before kick-off.
Player to Watch: Florian Sotoca
Lois Openda is the team’s best scorer, but the most valuable is Florian Sotoca. The experienced 32-year-old center-forward is in his fourth season with Lens and has become one of the most valuable players in the league. He scored six goals, the second most on the team, but he is also Lens’ best creator with six assists.
