No Champions League football for Leicester City duo Iheanacho, Ndidi after loss to Tottenham
Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho will not be playing in next season’s UEFA Champions League if they remain at Leicester City following their 4-2 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at the King Power Stadium on Sunday evening.
It seemed like the Foxes would be in the Champions League next season when they led 2-1 with fourteen minutes remaining but Tottenham Hotspur, through their firepower from the bench, came through in the end to seal their own place in Europe at the expense of north London rivals Arsenal.
Two goals from Jamie Vardy sandwiched in between a strike from Harry Kane – the Premier League Golden Boot winner with 23 goals – put Leicester City in the ascendancy.
An own goal from Kasper Schmeichel restored parity for the visitors and Iheanacho came close to restoring their lead on 84 minutes but shot over.
Gareth Bale gives Spurs the lead with three minutes to go to hamper Leicester’s top four hopes and the Welshman netted his second of the game in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
Leicester City, winner of this season’s Emirates FA Cup, finished fifth in the top-flight and will feature in the Europa League.
Iheanacho ended the campaign with 12 goals in 25 Premier League appearances while Ndidi scored once in 26 matches.
