Okereke recalls from being record signing to bench warmer at Club Brugge – Score Nigeria

David Okereke has again spoken about his time at Belgian champions Club Brugge – from the club’s record signing to a bench warmer.

Club Brugge signed Okereke for a record eight Million Euros from Italian club Spezia but two years later he was dumped to the bench and struggling for game time.

“At first I felt support, the team were counting on me. But another time I felt every chance to play that I got was a process,” Okereke told Het Nieuwsblad.

“And if you have to prove you too much, you make mistakes. It was not  fun anymore.

“At Venezia (where he is now playing on loan from Club Brugge), the coach is patient with me. He doesn’t ask for things I can’t do. He just wants you to give your heart to the team.”

He was asked whether the level in Belgium was too high for him.

“Certainly not, I don’t think the Belgian league is that difficult, maybe I wasn’t ready to play and then be dropped to the bench,” he answered.

At the end of the season, Venezia have an option to sign him on a permanent basis but the forward said his future is still not clear.

“Club Brugge will decide whether I still have a future with them,” he said. “I am like a moving train: I don’t know what my next destination will be.”
