Paratici drives home Tottenham advantage for signing he’s always wanted

Tottenham Hotspur have the advantage to sign a player Fabio Paratici previously attempted to take to Juventus, according to reports.

Paratici left Juventus earlier this year and became the new managing director of Tottenham. He had a busy first summer in north London, overseeing various transfers. But the club are still in a process of evolution and January will not be any quieter.

Indeed, the appointment of Antonio Conte as head coach has only increased expectations for the January transfer window. The Italian has been demanding in the market wherever he has gone.

With several issues for Spurs to rectify, they will try to appease him in January. His former Juventus colleague Paratici will be the driving force.

One target Paratici is particularly keen on giving Conte is Bayern Munich midfielder Corentin Tolisso. The Frenchman is out of contract at the end of the season.

Likely to find a new club as a free agent, Tolisso has a range of suitors despite the injuries that have prevented his progress in Germany.

Tottenham are well in the running, as has been clear since October. There were reports of them already being in talks over the chance to sign the World Cup winner.

Now, Football Italia have provided an update on the situation. They report that, despite Inter Milan holding talks with Tolisso’s representatives, Tottenham are in pole position for his signature.

Remembering that Paratici tried to sign Tolisso for Juventus from Lyon in 2017, before Bayern beat them to an agreement, the report reiterates how much the Tottenham official is keen on a deal.

They have already been offered Tolisso’s services and were receptive. Crucially, they are also the most willing suitor to match his wage demands.

Tolisso wants a salary of €6m per season from his next contract. Neither Inter nor fellow Italian suitors Juventus or Roma are keen on giving him those terms.

Tottenham, on the other hand, can afford to do so and Paratici believes it would be worthwhile.

Midfield is an area Spurs could be looking to reinforce in 2022. Their only signing in that position in the summer was Pape Matar Sarr, whom they loaned straight back to Metz.

There have been doubts about the futures of the likes of Tanguy Ndombele and Dele Alli, despite Conte offering a glimmer of hope for a fresh start.

Even if they stay, an extra body – especially with the experience of 27-year-old Tolisso – would do no harm.
Tottenham midfield target makes priorities clear
While there is good news for Tottenham in relation to their pursuit of Tolisso, their chances of signing another midfield target have taken a hit.

Tottenham have been listed as one of the contenders to sign another player out of contract in 2022: Inter’s Marcelo Brozovic.

Conte trusted Brozovic greatly during their time together at San Siro. Therefore, a reunion may make sense if the Croatian isn’t going to be staying at Inter.

However – amid links with the likes of Newcastle and Manchester United as well – Brozovic has now hinted he is not interested in a transfer yet.

An Italian journalist has revealed a conversation with Brozovic, in which the midfielder said, “Yes, I do” when asked if he wants to stay with Inter.

Hence, Tottenham’s focus may have to fix even more firmly on Tolisso if they want a quality, cheap midfield reinforcement.
