Pochettino wants Man Utd job now, Real to move for Mount

Mauricio Pochettino could be up for dumping PSG now in favour of the Man Utd job, while Chelsea may need to show Mason Mount a little love…

On the morning after Ed Woodward shot Bambi, Manchester United are now looking for two managers: an interim appointment and a permanent boss.

But they could make life a lot simpler just by hiring Mauricio Pochettino now. And the word is the Argentinian is up for it.

Pochettino is one of the main names in the frame for the permanent gig, with Sky Sports reporting that he is United’s primary target and Ajax boss Erik ten Hag is their second preference.

But the Daily Mail says Pochettino would drop PSG now if United want him. Poch, apparently, is fed up of the egos at PSG – just wait until he meets the delicate flowers at Old Trafford – and he’s also had enough of living in a Paris hotel while his family remains in London.

Ignoring the fact that Paris is probably as easy to reach from London as Manchester is, this might be a go-er. Pochettino was reportedly up for quitting PSG and returning to Spurs in the summer and given his long history of being linked with United, there could be an opportunity for the Red Devils. Let’s see how they screw this one up.

What about the other names in the running for the United job?

Zinedine Zidane doesn’t want it and Luis Enrique has already dismissed the prospect. The Sun says Brendan Rodgers has been approached and United would be prepared to pay the £8million it would take to get him away from Leicester, but the Foxes are hardly enhancing their manager’s credentials.

The Telegraph reckons United are considering Sporting Lisbon coach Ruben Amorim. The 36-year-old won the title for Sporting last season for the first time in 19 years which hasn’t gone unnoticed at Old Trafford.

Chelsea might have a problem with Mason Mount…

The England star is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2024 having signed a five-year deal in 2019. But Mount has enhanced his status considerably since those terms were agreed and the attacker is apparently feeling ‘frustrated and under-appreciated’ by the Blues’ lack of urgency to review his £75,000-a-week deal.

Which has put a number of Chelsea’s rivals on alert. According to Fichajes, Real Madrid are first in line for Mount if Chelsea fail to show him some love, with Manchester City and Bayern Munich also monitoring the 22-year-old’s situation.
