Ribery set for Salernitana medical

Franck Ribery has reached an agreement with Salernitana to sign for them as a free agent following the expiration of his contract at Fiorentina, according to Fabrizio Romano. The medical is scheduled to take place on Monday.

Having started out at Lille’s youth setup, Ribery played for the Under-19 team of US Boulogne, where he earned first-team promotion back in 2000. He also had spells with Olympique Ales, Brest, Metz and Galatasaray, before joining Olympique Marseille in 2005. Two years later, he moved on to Bayern Munich, and that’s where his career really took off.

He spent 12 years with the Bavarians, winning nine Bundesliga titles, six DFB-Pokal trophies, the 2013 Champions League, followed by the UEFA Super Sup and the FIFA Club World Cup. His exploits that year saw him pick up the UEFA Player of the Year Award. Overall, he made 425 appearances for the club, scoring 124 goals and producing 182 assists. He left as a free agent and joined Fiorentina two years ago.

At the age of 38, the former France international obviously doesn’t think it’s time to hang up his boots.
