Rio Ferdinand names player with ‘playground skills’ as best in the Premier League

Rio Ferdinand claims Liverpool star Mohamed Salah showed “playground skills” in the 2-2 draw with Manchester City and is currently the best player in the Premier League.

The Egyptian has scored six goals in his opening seven league games of the season to drive Liverpool to second place in the table going into the international break.

Salah provided a brilliant assist for Sadio Mane to open the scoring on Sunday, before notching a stunning goal of his own.

And Ferdinand admits there is no better player in the Premier League than Salah right now, lauding his impact on the Reds in the last few seasons.

“He’s the best player in the Premier League right now. It’s bunning my chest talking like this about a Liverpool player,” he said on Vibe on Five.

“[His goal} was like being on FIFA, that chop, I’ve done that many times on Fifa where you pretend to whip it top corner and then you chop it back. Playground skills.

“Salah is scoring goals that is helping Liverpool win premier League and Champions League titles.”

Ferdinand also praised Liverpool as a whole for their reaction after a poor first half display at Anfield.

He added: “What I like about Liverpool was they started terribly, and they reacted at half time, came out a different animal.

“The first half Liverpool couldn’t get out and City could have had 2 or 3 first half, I think City will be disappointed not to win and Liverpool happy with a draw.”

Meanwhile, Gary Neville has doubled down on his assertion that something is missing with Liverpool this season.

Speaking during the latest Gary Neville podcast, he said: “I said after the Chelsea game here a few weeks ago I didn’t think that Liverpool were just right.

“They’re still setting a good standard but the problem is they set themselves a standard you very rarely seen in English football, a couple of years ago and they’re not at that standard.

“There is no doubt this team is not as good as the one from two, three years ago when they were absolutely blistering in possession and out of possession.

“It’s not quite the same physical performance and I don’t quite know why that is; something’s just gone a little bit.

“They’ve no doubt worked hard in these last four or five years, it’s been an outstanding performance but they look like they need a little refresh to go back up to that level.

“This level they’re at now can still win them the title this season but it’s just not the same as it was and it just allowed City in that first half to gain a lot of confidence.”
