Rohr hails new Super Eagles stars – Score Nigeria
Gernot Rohr has saluted his makeshift Super Eagles who managed a crucial 2-1 win in Cape Verde today, saying some of the replacements for his missing top stars will step up competition for places in the team.
Rohr was without as many as seven players who started Friday’s 2-0 home win over Liberia after their clubs in the Premier League and Scotland barred them from playing in Red-listed Cape Verde today.
However, in the absence of the likes of Kelechi Iheanacho, Wilfred Ndidi and William Ekong, Innocent Bonke, Kingsley Michael and Chidera Ejuke proved their worth in Cape Verde.
An impressed Rohr said: Rohr; “The new players have brought in new competition to the first team.
“We have had (Innocent) Bonke in our scouting team, they did well, we missed harmony in the early moment, but they did a good job.
“It was a difficult game for us, we needed to built a new team, it wasn’t easy, but in Nigeria we have abundant talents.”
The coach said he hopes to keep winning on the way to Qatar 2022.
“We are happy to win this game, it is not easy to come back, the goal we conceded was unfortunate. We need to continue winning and play well,” he charged.
