Star boys Emmanuel Dennis, Okereke give clubs hopes of survival – Score Nigeria
The goals and form of Emmanuel Dennis and David Okereke have given their respective clubs hope they will escape relegation at the end of the season, just as Taiwo Awoniyi and Kevin Akpoguma again show class in the German Bundesliga.
From ‘Calamity’ defender, Awaziem has over the years grown into a confident and assured valuable asset for his team. His various loan spells in France, Spain and Turkey have certainly polished his many rough edges as he again showed how far he has come with another master-class display for Alanyaspor to upstage champions Besiktas 2-0 and shoot to fourth place on the Turkish Super Lig standings. He shot out striker Clye Larin, who a few days earlier scored twice for Canada to beat Mexico and go top of the CONCACAF World Cup qualifying series.
The versatile caught the eye with a solid performance at right wing back for Hoffenheim to defeat RB Leipzig 2-0 in the German Bundesliga. On such form, the former Germany U20 captain certainly can fix some of the shortcomings in the Super Eagles defence particularly in the heart of the backline, where William Ekong and Leon Balogun have been far from convincing lately.
Awoniyi flying high in Bundesliga
The striker netted his eighth goal against Hertha Berlin at the weekend and he is now the third leading scorer in the German Bundesliga behind Robert Leawandowski (Bayern Munich, 14 goals) and Earling Haaland (Borussia Dortmund, 9 goals). Thanks in part to his goals, Union Berlin have climbed to fifth on the table with 20 points from 12 matches and within the qualification bracket for European football next season.
The former Spezia striker has truly found his groove back in Italy with promoted Venezia and he will now most certainly be one of the reasons should they against most expectations not be relegated from Serie A in their first-ever season in the Italian top league. His fourth goal gave his club full marks at Bologna and further pushed them to safety.
Okereke – From Super Flop to Big Hit
Dennis was most certainly ‘The Menace’ after he scored a goal and provided two assists in another Man-of-the-match display for Watford to shock Manchester United 4-1 in their fight to stay up in the Premier League. He has now scored four goals and provided five assists in his debut season in the English top-flight league. As for that little matter that he has been overlooked by the Super Eagles, that would also most certainly be a thing of the past should he keep up such sparkling form.
