He Is A Master Tactician – Wife Of Super Eagles Star Striker Wants NFF To Go For Coach Of Saudi Arabia Renard

He Is A Master Tactician – Wife Of Super Eagles Star Striker Wants NFF To Go For Coach Of Saudi Arabia Renard

As the contract of the current coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Jose Peseiro enters into it’s final six months, there has been talks about if he is worth an extension or not owing to recent run of results.

Peseiro has only won two out of the nine games he has handled the team and it came against Sierra Leone and Sao Tome and Principe both in the AFCON qualifiers. The only two games he has handled the team in competive games so far.

Reacting to the performance of the Saudi Arabia team after their 1-0 win over Argentina, the wife of former Super Eagles top striker Odion Ighalo urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to recruit the coach of the team Herve Renard saying he is a master tactician.

” He is a matter tactician. We need him”, Adesuwa Sonia Ighalo posted on her Instagram story after the 2-1 win recorded by Saudi Arabia against Argentina at the ongoing 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Her comment is coming at a time when it appears the Portuguese coach of the Nigerian team and the NFF appear to be heading for a divorce, as he hasn’t been paid for six months plus his deal has six months to go and there has been no talks over an extension.

Although Renard is no stranger to African football as he has coached Morocco and Zambia in the past. He might however be out of the budget of the NFF as he currently earns around $120,000 a month as coach of Saudi Arabia. $50,000 more than what Peseiro who hasn’t been paid for six months earns at that moment.

Real Madrid considering a move for Manchester United star who is leaving the door open for move

Real Madrid considering a move for Manchester United star who is leaving the door open for move

Real Madrid are considering making a move for Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

Fernandes has quickly become one of Manchester United’s key players since joining the club. The Portuguese midfielder is a fan favourite at Old Trafford and he’s continued his fine form for Portugal during the World Cup.

There’s an argument for Fernandes being Portugal’s most important player so far during the tournament, and his displays are bound to attract the interest of clubs around Europe.

Now, according to Record, via Sport Witness, Real Madrid are one of the clubs showing an interest in the Manchester United midfielder.

Bruno Fernandes celebrates a goal for Manchester United.

The report claims that although Fernandes is happy at United, he would consider a move if he believes it’s a step forward.

Real Madrid, after winning the Champions League last season, would be a step up for Fernandes, with Manchester United not performing to the level we usually expect from them.

Fernandes is under contract until 2026 and will undoubtedly be indispensable, so it could take a hefty transfer fee to prise him away from Old Trafford.

Manchester United interested in making sensational swoop for Chelsea star in January

Manchester United interested in making sensational swoop for Chelsea star in January

Manchester United are interested in making a sensational swoop for Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech.

Ziyech has struggled to become a regular in the Chelsea side since joining from Ajax. The Morrocan winger was exceptional in Holland not only for his club but in the Champions League.

It hasn’t quite worked for him at Chelsea, possibly struggling to adapt to the Premier League, but that hasn’t stopped another English club from showing an interest in signing him.

More Stories / Latest News

A report from Calcio Mercato, via Sport Witness, Ziyech is now being targeted by Manchester United. Erik ten Hag is reportedly looking to improve his attack in the January transfer window, especially with Cristiano Ronaldo leaving the club.

At 29 years old, Ziyech probably needs a move with only a few years left in his career. It’s clearly not working for him at Chelsea so it could be time for him to move on.

However, the chance of Chelsea selling to a Premier League rival seems pretty slim and the report claims that Italian clubs are also interested, so you’d imagine Chelsea would prefer to sell Ziyech abroad.

After a year without a club, forgotten Super Eagles star eye Real Zaragoza move

After a year without a club, forgotten Super Eagles star eye Real Zaragoza move

The former Nigeria international has six caps for the Super Eagles but has not featured for the 2013 African champions since 2019

Free agent Ramon Azeez is interested in teaming up with Spanish Segunda Division side Real Zaragoza if reports from the country’s media are anything to go by.

Azeez has been without a club since August 31, 2021, when Granada terminated his contract.

Despite his tremendous experience in Spanish football, Azeez has not been able to attract serious suitors over the last two transfer windows.

A combative defensive midfielder, Azeez has 71 La Liga games, and 105 Segunda Division matches under his belt, with four goals scored in each championship.

And according to Sport Aragon, the 29-year-old enforcer has sanctioned his agents to open up a negotiations channel with Real Zaragoza.

Consequently, Azeez has been offered to the six-time Copa Del Rey winners in recent weeks.

It is believed that Real Zaragoza have not given Azeez’s representatives a clear answer, though. While the Aragon-based club values the possibilities offered by the player and his experience, they have postponed any transfer move until the winter.

A Nigeria international since 2014, Azeez has six caps for the Super Eagles. The former Almeria star’s last game for Nigeria, though, was as a second-half substitute in a 4-2 win away to Lesotho in November 2019.

‘Sarr is not Mane’ – Okocha reveals it’s difficult for Senegal to replace Bayern Munich star

Ahead of Senegal’s final group game of the 2022 World Cup against Ecuador, Nigeria legend Austin Okocha admitted that it is difficult for the Teranga Lions to replace their talisman Sadio Mane.

The Bayern Munich striker was originally named in Senegal’s World Cup squad despite suffering an injury in a Bundesliga clash against Werder Bremen but was forced to withdraw from the roster as further scans showed that he would require surgery.

Okocha has insisted that Watford dazzler Ismaïla Sarr cannot step into the shoes vacated by Mane who creates a lot of havoc in the attacking third.

Speaking on SuperSport just before the start of Ecuador v Senegal, Okocha said : “Ismaïla Sarr has done well so far for this national team of Senegal but to be honest he’s not Mane.

“Those are the kind of players that are difficult to replace because their presence alone does create a lot of chaos in opponents defence. “

The three-time World Cupper went on to praise the Senegalese team for their work ethic and fighting spirit, and believes that manager Aliou Cissé is doing an outstanding job in those areas.

“One good thing that this Senegalese team has got right from years back is heart. They are fearless and they believe they can beat anybody.

“Also the character of their manager has been passed on to this team. I managed to play with him , he wasn’t the most brilliant player but he had heart.

“You can see from this Senegalese team that what they have going for them now is team spirit because they are missing crucial individual players like Mane who finished second in the  Ballon d’Or.”

African champions Senegal have to beat Ecuador to advance to the last sixteen of the 2022 World Cup.

‘Not impossible’ – Agent admits Man Utd-linked Nigeria star could leave Napoli next summer

Italian intermediary Andrea D’Amico, who was among the agents that brokered the deal taking Victor Osimhen from Lille to Napoli in 2020, has admitted that the Nigeria international could be leaving the Serie A club next summer.

Manchester United have identified Osimhen as a possible replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo whose contract was terminated after his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

The Red Devils bringing in the 2015 U17 World Cup winner to Old Trafford in the January transfer window looks unlikely as Napoli are still competing on three fronts – Serie A, Coppa Italia and UEFA Champions League.

The stumbling block to a potential deal is his asking price, with Napoli valuing him at more than 100 million euros.

D’Amico reckons that Napoli would sanction the sale of Osmhen next summer if they receive an offer too good to turn down.

Speaking on 1 Football Club , Luca Cerchione’s program broadcast on 1 Radio Station, via Area Napoli, D’Amico said  : “Will the love story between Osimhen and Napoli end in June ? The epilogue of the current candidate will be fundamental.

“Faced with indispensable offers, it is not impossible that Victor can leave, especially if Giuntoli has an important alternative is ready.

“To date, it is still early to know the future of the Nigerian, but the sporting director is very good at replacing apparently irreplaceable players. “

Osimhen will enter the last two years of his contract with Napoli on July 1, 2023.

England star Jack Grealish reveals what he told Bukayo Saka’s Nigerian dad:: All Nigeria Soccer

England star Jack Grealish reveals what he told Bukayo Saka’s Nigerian dad:: All Nigeria Soccer

Manchester City’s England star Jack Grealish has revealed the exchange he had with Bukayo Saka’s Nigerian dad in an interview with his former Aston Villa teammate Gabriel Agbonlahor, who also has Nigerian blood flowing in his veins.

Grealish gave the lowdown on his Three Lions teammates who are competing at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Nigeria Football Federation were following the progress of Saka after he broke into the first team of Arsenal but he decided to stick with England whom he represented at youth level and went on to play a cap-tying game for his country of birth.

The Arsenal winger is proud of his Nigerian heritage and in a show of generosity he recently paid for 120 Nigerian children to undergo life-changing surgeries.

When asked about who he’d like to be with the most if he was stuck on a desert island with just a Boombox, Grealish told talkSPORT : “Saka is the best kid actually. I went up to his dad and told him ‘I love your son!’ He’s the nicest kid ever but he’s got a little bit of banter as well. He’s funny, man.

“He’s laid back but when he’s on the training pitch he’s on it. Off it he’s quite laid back and chilled.

“Do you know what, I’m going Saks. I don’t know about his music but he’d make me laugh.”

Bukayo Saka was the standout performer in England’s opening match of the 2022 World cup, netting a brace in a 6-2 rout of Iran on November 21.

Transfer gossip: Man Utd rival Liverpool for World Cup star as Arsenal eye Spain, USA forwards

Transfer gossip: Man Utd rival Liverpool for World Cup star as Arsenal eye Spain, USA forwards

Man Utd and Liverpool will go head to head for a Premier League midfielder, while the Red Devils may be interested to hear of a rift between a World Cup keeper and his manager…

UNITED TO ENTER CAICEDO RACE
It seems that Manchester United and Liverpool have very similar lists when it comes to midfield targets. Jude Bellingham appears to be the priority for both sides next summer, while the two clubs also have a Plan B in common.

Apparently, United are intent on moving for Moises Caicedo next summer. That’s the word according to Sky Germany, with Liverpool also keen on the Brighton star.

‘Many other top clubs’ are also sniffing around Caicedo, who has been on United’s radar for a long time. They were frontrunners to sign the Ecuadorian before Brighton swooped, with the Red Devils deciding to leave it after the deal became ‘a clusterf***’ with representatives crawling out of the woodwork looking for their cut.

MARTINEZ COULD SEEK VILLA EXIT
United could also be in the market for a goalkeeper, with doubts over whether they will exercise their option to extend David De Gea’s huge deal for a further 12 months. So they may be interested to learn of an apparent rift between Emiliano Martinez and Unai Emery.

Football Insider says the Argentina keeper had a ‘fall out’ with the manager during their time together at Arsenal. Martinez got away from the Emirates when he joined Villa, only for Emery to follow when he replaced Steven Gerrard a few weeks ago. And it seems the pair haven’t yet cleared the air.

United have been linked with a move for Martinez, with Everton’s Jordan Pickford and Porto’s Diogo Costa also said to be on their list of possible replacements for De Gea.

ARSENAL EYE WORLD CUP ATTACKERS
Arsenal are being linked with a couple of World Cup forwards this grey and murky Tuesday morning…

The Gunners are said to be one of three teams ‘monitoring developments’ around Christian Pulisic. The USA star has never established himself in the Chelsea first XI and the Daily Mail says the Blues are now ready to sell in January, with an asking price of around £35million. Manchester United were known to be interested in Pulisic during the summer, while Newcastle are also said to be keen.

Arsenal’s name has also been chucked in the mix regarding Nico Williams. The Athletic Bilbao attacker is currently with the Spain squad, with Goal suggesting the Gunners, as well as Liverpool, Chelsea and PSG, as potential suitors. Williams has a release clause worth around £43million.

Uruguay unlikely to shift Real Madrid star Valverde forward after consecutive scoreless outings

Uruguay unlikely to shift Real Madrid star Valverde forward after consecutive scoreless outings

Uruguay head coach Diego Alonso believes his Real Madrid star Federico Valverde is best suited as a defensive midfielder, but that the team will need to perform better as a whole to allow him to “shine more”.

Alonso’s comments came after Monday’s disappointing 2-0 loss to Portugal, leaving Uruguay alongside Mexico and Tunisia as the only teams without a goal through two matches.

Following their failure to score in their 0-0 opener against South Korea, Uruguay were well-handled by the Portuguese, controlling only 40 per cent of the possession, although they only narrowly trailed in expected goals 1.33 to 1.27.

Not short on talent, Uruguay fielded a starting XI that included Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez and 135-cap veteran Edinson Cavani up front, while Tottenham’s Rodrigo Betancur partnered Valverde in midfield.

Having played both in central midfield and on the wing for Madrid, Valverde was deployed in the engine room against Portugal, and despite their desperation for goals, Alonso made it clear that is where he feels the 24-year-old is most valuable.

“I think Federico has played full matches with us in the qualifying round,” he said. “He’s played in the same position, even playing higher up.

“I think he played as a defensive midfielder with a second pivot together with Bentancur. It’s the same position that you saw today. He was even playing higher up, or as a wide midfielder.

“I think his main skill is playing through the central lanes. With us, he’s showed a great performance in that position.

“When you talk about shooting, I think he shot once [against Korea], it just missed the top corner. He was unlucky he couldn’t score.

“For us, he’s an important player with many skills. When the team plays better, I’m sure he will shine more.”

Despite their lack of potency going forward, Uruguay still have a chance to advance to the knockout stage if they can defeat Ghana in their final Group H fixture – a rematch from 2010’s quarter-final where Uruguay advanced on penalties.

“We are looking for victory against Ghana, there is no doubt about it,” Alonso said. “If we have to make slight modifications, that is what we’ll do.

“We will provide a team all the weapons we have at hand, so I have full trust in my players. I’m sure the next game will be hard, but we will go all out so that we have a victory and we qualify.

“We are talking about qualifying or not qualifying. It was very important back in [2010], but this is a different situation. It will be a crucial game, but has nothing to do with what happened 12 years ago.

“We need to feel free and move freely as we played during the second half against Korea. We need to gamble more and push forward, playing in between the lines and going for one-on-ones on the sides.

“Sometimes, opponents also play, they stop you, they know which are your main skills and they try to counter your play. But we need to continue trusting our team, our skills, the players we have, and to also give them trust to develop their game.”

Ex-Super Eagles star insists Song wrong to drop Onana; praises Aboubakar, Choupo-Moting

Former Super Eagles defender Ifeanyi Udeze has weighed in on the face off between Indomitable Lions head coach Rigobert Song and first choice goalkeeper André Onana before the Group G match between Cameroon and Serbia.

Before the game that ended 3-3, news breaking from the camp of the Lions indicated that Inter Milan goalie Onana had been dropped for Monday’s game over his disagreement with his coach Song over team tactics.

“I believe there must have been issue between Onana and the coach. Rigobert Song,” Udeze who was part of Nigeria’s 2002 FIFA World Cup squad said on Brila FM.

“Song should have managed the situation. After the tournament, you may wish not to invite the player as the coach if you remain there or even as the FA President but not during the tournament.

“When Jay-Jay Okocha was playing for the Super Eagles, if the coach felt he showboated a lot, he will be replaced but will still start the next game or be part of the game from the bench,” Udeze revealed.

“Cameroon had the chance to score but they gave away this game. You can’t throw your best players out. The worse case scenario, you substitute the player. This is a tournament proper.

“When Aliou Cissé’s Senegal lost to the Netherlands and he defended  his keeper, Mendy, he knew what he was doing.

“Cisse knows how to manage players. He’s a good man manager. His keeper made a mistake but he defended him. And even Kalidou Koulibaly against the Netherlands. And the next game, they won.

“Unless the behavior of the player is so bad, you have to know your man management.

Udeze also heaped praise on the duo of Vincent Aboubakar and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting for their contributions in the comeback against the Serbians.

” I’m happy they came back into the game and earned a draw. I thought they had lost it.

“Vincent Aboubakar thought he was offside but VAR confirmed it was not offside. He’s very happy. At least he’s scored at the World Cup.

“Choupo-Moting is an experienced player who knows how to position himself. If a player doesn’t have fitness, he must be intelligent enough to know when attack the ball.”

Cameroon will take on Brazil in their final group game at the Lusail Iconic Stadium, Lusail on Friday, December 2.

WATCH: “Starboy!” – Super Eagles star praises Ghana Black Stars match-winner Kudus

The young Ghanaian talent produced a performance for the ages to help the Black Stars claim their first win of Qatar 2022

Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey has showered praises on Ghana forward Mohammed Kudus after the attacker inspired the Black Stars to a dramatic 3-2 victory over South Korea on Monday afternoon.

Ghana started their 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign on a losing note after surrendering to a 2-3 defeat to Portugal on matchday one.

But the Black Stars were in the mood to make amends against South Korea, racing to a 2-0 lead within the opening 34 minutes inside the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan. Salisu and Kudus were the goalscorers.

The Koreans, however, staged an incredible comeback in the second half, with Cho Gue-Sung scoring twice in three minutes to drag the game back on levelled terms.

Ghana, though, did not give up the fight, and Ajax forward Kudus brought the win home with his second goal of the afternoon in the 68th minute. The youngster thus became the first Ghanaian to score two goals in a single World Cup match.

Back at the Ajax training ground in Amsterdam, Bassey watched his club teammate propel Ghana to their first win at the World Cup.

And in a video posted on the club’s official Twitter handle, the Nigeria international hailed Kudus for his match-winning contribution.

Bassey called the 22-year-old Ghanaian forward a “Star boy”, an accolade for one who is shining bright at the moment.

Of Kudus, Bassey said: “Star boy. He’s on fire. He’s on fire. Good player. Crazy, right? I’m happy for him.”

Brazil duo Tite and Neymar claim Man Utd star is ‘the best midfielder in the world’

Brazil duo Tite and Neymar claim Man Utd star is ‘the best midfielder in the world’

Brazil head coach Tite and injured star Neymar have argued that Manchester United summer signing Casemiro is “the best midfielder in the world”.

The United centre-midfielder’s stunning strike in the 83rd minute secured Brazil their 1-0 victory over Switzerland.

This result means they are through to the World Cup knockout stages with a game to spare. This prompted Neymar to tweet after the game: “Casemiro has been the best midfielder in the world for a long time.”

Asked at his post-match press conference if he agreed, Tite said: “As a habit, I always respect opinions and I usually don’t comment on opinions, but I will allow myself to do so today. I agree.”

Without Neymar, Brazil were frustrated for long periods at Stadium 974 before Casemiro rounded off good work by Vinicius Junior and substitute Rodrygo to score the game’s only goal and send them into their final group fixture against Cameroon on Friday in a commanding position.

Asked about the Paris St Germain star’s absence, Tito said: “Obviously Neymar has a different skill-set. He is a player who in a magical moment can dribble past you and all of a sudden, you say, ‘What happened here?’. He has that skill.

“Other players are getting there to get to the level he is at and I hope they get there. Yes, we do miss Neymar, we do miss him. He has a big creative power, he’s very effective so we miss him, yes.

“But there are other players who can take their opportunity.”

Casemiro, who joined United from Real Madrid this summer, played down his decisive intervention and insisted Brazil were better-placed to mount a serious challenge for glory than they were four years ago, when they were beaten by Belgium in the last eight.

He said: “Four years have gone by, there are new players. This year we have a wider range of options, we have more players to choose from.

“Without even changing the team, we have a possibility of changing the way we play. If we substitute players, we have even more options.

“Therefore, there is no doubt whatsoever that the options are much greater than those in 2018.”

Switzerland boss Murat Yakin admitted his side had lacked the “courage” they needed to take the game to the South Americans, but swiftly turned his attention to Friday’s showdown with Serbia.

The sides met in Russia four years ago, when Granit Xhaka and Xherdan Shaqiri, who are both of Albanian-Kosovan heritage, found themselves the subject of disciplinary action after making nationalist gestures during their side’s 2-1 win.

Yakin said: “We have to focus on football, just on football. For both teams, this is a decisive game and it will be an interesting and exciting game.

“We want to focus on football. Everything else, I really don’t care about.”

“He’s different to Nunez” – England hero urges Liverpool to sign Super Eagles star who he says is ‘phenomenal’

“He’s different to Nunez” – England hero urges Liverpool to sign Super Eagles star who he says is ‘phenomenal’

The Nigeria international is not among the stars lighting up the World Cup but continues to attract the attention of Europe’s biggest clubs

Former England international Emile Heskey has charged Liverpool to make a move for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

The failure of the Super Eagles to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup means Osimhen is not in Qatar showing off his quality at football’s biggest festival.

But the Nigeria international remains one of the most sought-after forwards following his exploits for Napoli.

Osimhen is the Italian Serie A’s top goalscorer this season, with nine goals in 11 games. The 23-year-old also has a goal in the Champions League as Napoli finished ahead of Liverpool in the group stages.

Some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Manchester United, Chelsea, and Real Madrid, are constantly being credited with an interest in the exciting striker.

Liverpool, though, seemed content with the acquisition of Uruguayan star Darwin Nunez following the departure of Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich.

But Anfield great Emile Heskey believes the Reds should be among the clubs jostling to sign Osimhen.

In a chat with the Safe betting site (as per Anfield Watch), Heskey reveals why he is a big fan of the Super Eagles star.

“He would certainly give them something different to what they have now,” Heskey noted. “He’s different to Nunez who can play out wide; Osimhen would be that central goal threat.

“He’s quick, has an eye for goal, and can finish really well with both feet. He’s a top player. I think Napoli paid quite a lot for him, so that’s why he’s commanding a £100m transfer fee.

“I saw him score against Leicester last season in the Europa League and he’s a top striker and would certainly enhance Liverpool’s options in attack without a doubt.

“He’s a phenomenal player, and I think his pace means he would be very much suited to the Premier League.”

Osimhen recently won Global Soccer’s “Emerging Young Player of the Year” award in Doha.

Tottenham star Son Heung-Min in tears over ‘lack of justice’ in South Korea’s draw vs Ghana

Tottenham star Son Heung-Min in tears over ‘lack of justice’ in South Korea’s draw vs Ghana

Tottenham star Son Heung-Min was in tears following a “lack of justice” shown by referee Anthony Taylor, South Korea assistant Sergio Costa has claimed.

Spurs attacker Son was visibly upset at the final whistle after South Korea fell to a 3-2 loss which leaves them on the brink of being knocked out of the World Cup.

Cho Gue-sung netted twice in just three second-half minutes to bring South Korea level before Mohammed Kudus fired Ghana to a dramatic victory.

South Korea coach Paulo Bento was shown a red card following a confrontation with Taylor at the end of the match.

Bento was furious South Korea were denied a corner when Taylor blew up after the allocated 10 minutes of stoppage time.

Asked why Son was so upset at the conclusion of Monday’s pulsating Group H fixture, Costa replied: “The reaction is a reaction of a person and a group which feels a lack of fairness at the end of the match.

“It is a normal reaction of someone that did all they could to win, and were not able to do so. I believe we should be sad, and feel a lack of justice at the end of this match.

“The result is totally unfair. Not even a tie was fair. We clearly deserved the win.”

Bento will now miss his side’s final group game against his home country Portugal.

Commenting on Bento’s outburst, Costa added: “It was related to the fact that we thought a different criteria was used.

“In the first half, they let a very similar situation be played, and in the second half, when we had an opportunity for a corner kick, the referee took that opportunity away from us.

“Paulo reacted, I was close by, and he said nothing which was inappropriate to the referee. It was a lack of fairness.”

Following their defeat to Portugal, Ghana’s win – their first at the World Cup since 2010 – provides them with hope of reaching the knockout stages.

Ajax’s Kudus will take the plaudits after he scored in both halves following Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu’s opener with 24 minutes gone.

“He is a good character and a very good player,” said Ghana manager Otto Addo of Kudus, 22.

“He is on the right track to be a great, great player, and I only have high praise for him.

“A big congratulations to the team to be mentally that strong and to come back and score the third goal.

“At the end it was passionate defending. We were a bit lucky because South Korea put us under a lot of pressure. But our passionate fight got rewarded.”

Savills Chase: Galvin and Conflated head Gordon Elliott’s star team at Leopardstown | Racing News

Savills Chase: Galvin and Conflated head Gordon Elliott’s star team at Leopardstown | Racing News

Galvin, Conflated and Fil Dor are among the big names set to be in action for
Gordon Elliott over the festive period as the Cullentra handler shuffles his
pack for Leopardstown’s Christmas Festival.

Elliott has enjoyed huge success at the four-day meeting in recent years, with Galvin’s thrilling Savills Chase victory over A Plus Tard a clear highlight in 2021.

The eight-year-old will return to Foxrock with a point to prove after disappointing on his seasonal reappearance in the Ladbrokes Champion Chase at Down Royal last month and is set to be joined by two stablemates in Conflated and Fury Road.

Image:
Conflated is clear at the last

Conflated won the Irish Gold Cup at Leopardstown last season and is expected to improve for his run when third in the same Down Royal race, while Fury Road won a Grade Two on the same card.

“I was very happy with Conflated in Down Royal. He had a good blow and came on an awful lot for the run,” Elliott said during a press morning at his yard on Monday.

“This will be his next target and he’s a good horse. He probably surprised me a little bit in the Irish Gold Cup, but he’s a fair horse on his day.”

Of Galvin, he added: “He scoped dirty after Down Royal but is back in good nick now and I’d imagine he’ll go to Leopardstown again.

“He’s got a big heart and finished fourth in the (Cheltenham) Gold Cup. He probably doesn’t get the credit he deserves.

“We’ll probably run Fury Road as well. He always seemed to be a little bit of a bridle horse, but I liked the way he put his head down in Down Royal and he’ll love the ground in Leopardstown too.”

As usual Elliott is well stocked in all areas, but his novice chasing team appears particularly strong. Fil Dor, a top-class juvenile hurdler last season, made a smart start to his career over fences at Navan on Sunday and is set for an immediate step up to Grade One level in the Racing Post Novice Chase on December 26.

Elliott said: “It probably looks like we’ve got a good bunch of novice chasers. We’ve a few nice novice hurdlers coming along as well, but I’d say we might be a little bit strong with the novice chasers at the moment.

“I thought Fil Dor jumped very well in Navan – he was foot perfect and attacked his fences. He always looked like he was going to be a chaser and I thought he was good.

“I’d imagine Leopardstown is where he’ll go. It would look perfect timing and he’s got strong with a summer’s grass, so he’ll head there.”

Image:
Fil Dor and Jack kennedy win the Boardsmill Stud Irish EBF Beginners Steeplechase

One of Fil Dor’s biggest rivals could prove to be fellow Elliott inmate Hollow Games, who also made a successful chasing debut at Navan earlier in the month.

The trainer added: “Hollow Games was in Navan this morning and jumped very well. I might have been running him over the wrong distance last year – I was trying to make him into a stayer, but the way he won over two miles and one (furlong) in Navan the last day, it might just be his trip.

“He’ll probably go to Navan on Sunday week and then go on to Leopardstown as well.”

Mighty Potter’s festive target should become clearer after he contests this weekend’s Drinmore Novice Chase at Fairyhouse, while it is surely only a matter of time before Grade One-winning hurdler Three Stripe Life steps up to the highest level over fences after bolting up on his introduction at Naas.

“He blew very hard after the race. He’s a big, gross horse and I’d say there could be a lot of improvement from that race in Naas,” Elliott added. “I’d say two and a half miles is as far as he’d go at the moment.”

Other novice chasers in contention to run over Christmas include Minella Crooner, who is bound for the three-mile Neville Hotels Novice Chase. Gerri Colombe is also in the mix for that Grade One heat, but only if conditions at Leopardstown are softer than is often the case.

The novice hurdling squad in County Meath is not too shabby either, with Absolute Notions towards the top of that particular pecking order.

The Milan gelding was a 25-1 winner in a Punchestown bumper on his debut, but proved that was no fluke when returning to the same track to make a winning hurdles bow earlier this month.

He is one of several Elliott-trained entries for Leopardstown’s Future Champions Novice Hurdle along with the likes of Listowel winner Amir Kabir, Cork scorer Irish Point and Imagine, who was narrowly denied a second win over obstacles at Gowran Park on Saturday.

Elliott said: “I’d say Absolute Notions is a good horse. I’d imagine he’ll be stepping up up in trip. Whether he goes for the Future Champions I’m not sure.

“Amir Kabir was very good in Listowel and I’d say he’ll probably go here. He gave himself a cut in Listowel and missed a bit of work, which is why he won’t run until Leopardstown.

“He’s a nice horse and I’d say he’ll love the ground in Leopardstown. “Imagine could go here – he’s a good horse. He might have won in Gowran if he jumped the last, but the winner (Inothewayurthinkin) looked very smart.

“Irish Point looks very nice and we like him. He has a bit of class, a bit of boot and a bit of speed.”

Zanahiyr has undergone wind surgery since disappointing in the Lismullen at Navan and looks set to step up to three miles for the first time in Leopardstown’s Christmas Hurdle on December 28.

Elliott’s chief hope for the following afternoon’s Matheson Hurdle over two miles is Pied Piper, who has already won at Cheltenham and Down Royal this season and will try to make an impact in a Champion Hurdle market that is currently dominated by the brilliant pair of Constitution Hill and Honeysuckle.

Image:
Pied Piper

Honeysuckle might be unbeaten in 16 runs and already a dual Champion Hurdle winner, but Constitution Hill is odds-on to take her crown after a blistering comeback in the Fighting Fifth at Newcastle.

“I was very impressed with Constitution Hill – it will be great to see him and Honeysuckle going head-to-head in the Champion Hurdle,” said Elliott.

“I’d imagine we’ll probably run Pied Piper over Christmas. He’s two from two this year and he’ll need to improve again to get to Grade One level, but he has got stronger.”

Man Utd not willing to pay N46.4b to bring Super Eagles star to Old Trafford:: All Nigeria Soccer

Premier League club Manchester United have taken their foot off the pedal as regards the transfer pursuit of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen.

According to Sky Germany, the Red Devils are in need of a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo who was released from his contract last week, but are not willing to meet the €100 million (N46.4 billion in Nigerian currency) price tag.

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis had previously revealed that Napoli will only part ways with Osimhen if the attacker’s price tag is met by a suitor.

Osimhen has become one of Europe’s most sought-after strikers as a result of his scintillating performances with the Naples based outfit since the start of last season.

The 23-year-old has scored 10 goals and assisted three  in 14 appearances for the Luciano Spalletti led side this term.

The Lagos-born forward joined Napoli from LOSC Lille for €70 million in 2020 after netting 18 goals during the 2019/2020 season.

The 2015 FIFA U-17 Golden Boot winner has no release clause in his contract with Napoli, and is still contracted to the Serie A League leaders up until the summer of 2025.

‘Statement signing’ – Journalist reacts to West Ham signing £350k-a-week star

‘Statement signing’ – Journalist reacts to West Ham signing £350k-a-week star

West Ham have been told that they would be pulling off a “major statement” signing if one of their transfer targets comes off.

The Hammers have recently been linked with a surprise move for Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba, whose future at the Nou Camp looks to be in some doubt.

It remains to be seen what Barca will decide to do with the experienced Spain international, but it could be that there’s an opportunity there for West Ham.

Pete O’Rourke has discussed the possible deal and certainly feels it would represent a big statement by the east London giants if they pull it off.

More Stories / Latest News

“David Moyes, I think, is interested in signing a left-back to improve the squad. It would come as a massive surprise if they did pursue a move for Jordi Alba, who is probably coming to the end of his career, but he’s won everything,” O’Rourke told Give Me Sport.

“He’s been a brilliant left-back, one of the best around, so I think it’d be a real statement signing if West Ham did bring him to the London stadium.”

Dutch Star Refuses To Rule Out United Move

Dutch Star Refuses To Rule Out United Move

Highly-rated Dutch star, Cody Gakpo, has refused to rule out his transfer to Manchester United in January.

This year, the PSV attacker has excelled for both his club and the Netherlands national team.

With 12 goals and 15 assists in all competitions for the Eredivisie team this season, the 23-year-old has been in superb form.

Gakpo has scored goals against Senegal and Ecuador for Holland at the World Cup, replicating his performance for his club as Louis van Gaal’s team attempts to move to the final round of the tournament.

Naija News recalls that the Dutch forward was strongly linked to joining Erik Ten Hag’s men last summer, but the deal didn’t go through.

However, following his recent electrifying performance at the World Cup and the exit of Cristiano Ronaldo from Old Trafford,  the PSV star has been reportedly linked with numerous clubs including United.

Gakpo claims his priority is on the World Cup despite the current rumours about his future, although he did not completely rule out leaving the Philips Stadion in January.

“Right now I’m busy with the Dutch team. I’ll see what happens in the winter. In football, anything is possible,” he said.

“I’m focused now on the World Cup. It’s always nice to hear but I just focus here and do my best. I don’t get shy about the rumours. But it’s a team sport, it’s not about one person.

“I prefer it to be about the team. It’s nice things that people write, but I’m not too concerned with that. I’m not surprised.

“I know what I’m capable of but it’s always a challenge to reach your highest level, that’s possible. I’m not there yet, I can improve in a lot of things,” he added.

Evra fires dig at former Arsenal star as he likens Man Utd defender to Carrick

Evra fires dig at former Arsenal star as he likens Man Utd defender to Carrick

Ex-Premier League defender Patrice Evra thinks Lisandro Martinez passes the ball like former Man Utd midfielder Michael Carrick.

The Red Devils signed Martinez in the summer transfer window from Ajax in a deal worth £56.7m after a couple of months of speculation.

Martinez had his doubters when he first arrived with many pundits, especially Graeme Souness, doubting his ability to cope in the Premier League because of his 5ft 9in stature.

However, Martinez has quickly emerged as a fan favourite with the Argentina international one of United’s most impressive performers this campaign.

The Man Utd defender is currently at the World Cup with Argentina and Evra has likened him to Carrick while managing to have a slight dig at former Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker.

“This is one of the best signings we’ve had for years at Manchester United,” Evra said on the Vibe with Five YouTube channel.

“It’s because of his fighting spirit. That’s what United fans want to see – those players have to bleed for the shirt.

“People were talking about his height and I was laughing. Some people said I was too small when I arrived in the Premier League as well. When you play with that heart and passion, size doesn’t matter.

“When he gets the ball, he is so clean and composed. Mexico were pressing everywhere [in the World Cup Group C game] but every time he got the ball he was calm and playing forward. That’s what I love.

“He doesn’t play those one-metre balls to the next player. This is easy. When I see those stats – I remember Mertesacker at Arsenal, the stats said he never lost the ball – but he was passing it one metre, I can do that every day.

“But Martinez puts the ball through the lines like Michael Carrick. That’s what he does and I love that. What a player, what a player.”

And Man Utd legend Rio Ferdinand, who was also on Vibe with Five, reckons other “aspects” of Martinez’s game more than makes up for his lack of height.

“All the other aspects of his game are great,” Ferdinand said.

“I remember speaking to Edwin van der Sar and other people at Ajax about him and they all said he was aggressive and tenacious but also great on the ball and can pass. Top defenders now need to have both sides of the game.”

Rooney tells Southgate to drop Chelsea star and make two more changes against Wales

Rooney tells Southgate to drop Chelsea star and make two more changes against Wales

Wayne Rooney thinks Gareth Southgate should make three changes to his side for their crucial World Cup clash against Wales on Tuesday.

The Three Lions will go through to the knockout stages of the World Cup if they avoid a heavy defeat to Wales after taking four points from their opening two fixtures against Iran and the USA.

Mason Mount had a really good game in their 6-2 victory over Iran but he was less effective versus the United States, who frustrated England on Friday night in a 0-0 draw.

There has been lots of calls from fans and pundits to start Manchester City Phil Foden over the Chelsea midfielder and Rooney – who hit the headlines this week because of his penis – would also like to see the 22-year-old in the team.

Rooney told The Times: “England’s performance was not great on Friday and there is no getting away from the fact that they will need to play a lot better to have a chance of winning this World Cup.

“Gareth Southgate needs to make changes for Tuesday’s game with Wales and given that it would almost take a miracle not to qualify, it’s the perfect opportunity for him to give minutes to players who have not been used much so far.

“Top of the list is Phil Foden. I found it very strange that Foden did not come on as a substitute against the USA. He would be a key part of my starting XI if I were the England boss. Technically, he is the best footballer England have.

“I think if you have a talent like Foden, you simply have to play him. He is now a different player from the one we saw at Euro 2020, when he struggled to make an impact.

“He is more mature and came into this tournament on the back of a long period of brilliant performances for Manchester City. He has the form to go with the ability.

“If I were him, I would be very frustrated that I didn’t get on the pitch at any stage of Friday’s game.

“My starting XI would have Foden on the left and Bukayo Saka competing with Raheem Sterling for a place on the right.

“I would also bring in another holding midfielder to play alongside Declan Rice, releasing Jude Bellingham to play as a No 10.”

Rooney added: “For the Wales game, I would also take out Mason Mount and bring in Kalvin Phillips if he is fit, and otherwise Jordan Henderson.

“I know Mount did very well against Iran and that he gives you a lot in terms of work rate and energy, but sometimes you need to just let your flair players and your better footballers go and influence games.

“That is why, if I were the England manager, I would make sure to get Foden on the pitch. Another of Foden’s strengths is his flexibility. If you need to change a game without making a substitution you can do that with Foden, because you can bring him inside if you need to, or you can play him out wide.

“The other big change I would make for the Wales match would be to rest Harry Kane. Against the USA, he looked like he may have been suffering the effects of a heavy knock he took in the Iran game.

“It was from a tackle in the second half and in that match I felt that Gareth should have considered taking him off at half-time. England were leading 3-0, the game was already won and Harry is our most important player.

“When there are opportunities to protect him and help him stay fit, I believe Gareth should take them — and that is why I would keep Harry on the bench against Wales.”

Exclusive: Barcelona had strong interest in Spain World Cup star but chose this transfer instead

Exclusive: Barcelona had strong interest in Spain World Cup star but chose this transfer instead

Barcelona chose to sign Ferran Torres over Dani Olmo despite having a strong transfer interest in the RB Leipzig and Spain star back in 2021.

The 24-year-old is now having an impressive World Cup with the Spanish national side, and Fabrizio Romano has discussed his situation in his exclusive Daily Briefing for CaughtOffside’s Substack.

Romano has revealed that Barca have been one of Olmo’s main admirers in recent times, but they opted instead to move for Torres while he was at Manchester City.

Like Olmo, Torres is also a key part of Luis Enrique’s Spain side in Qatar this winter, and he’s had his moments at the Nou Camp, even if he’s perhaps not been as consistent as many would have hoped.

Dani Olmo has been of interest to Barcelona in recent times

Olmo certainly seems like one to watch, with Romano admitting he could see the Leipzig forward being a good signing for a top Premier League club some day.

“Dani Olmo is impressing with Spain at the World Cup and I can reveal there was strong interest from Barcelona one year ago, in 2021; but then they invested €55m on Ferran Torres so nothing happened,”  Romano said.

“I think Olmo is a big talent and could be great for Premier League too; but there’s nothing imminent or close as of today.”

Exclusive: Chelsea star was a Man United transfer target in the summer but Arsenal have another priority

Exclusive: Chelsea star was a Man United transfer target in the summer but Arsenal have another priority

Chelsea attacking midfielder Christian Pulisic’s future is the subject of transfer gossip headlines once again as we approach January, so Fabrizio Romano has set the record straight in his exclusive CaughtOffside column on Substack.

The USA international, currently on World Cup duty with his country, has struggled to play regularly and show his best form in a Chelsea shirt, so it’s not too surprising that there continue to be stories about him possibly leaving Stamford Bridge.

One recent story that’s emerged is that both Manchester United and Arsenal could be options for Pulisic in January.

Romano has now responded to the Mail‘s report, explaining that Pulisic’s future has not been decided yet, though he confirmed that Man Utd looked at the 24-year-old in the summer.

Christian Pulisic in action for Chelsea

Arsenal, meanwhile, have other priorities, with Romano suggesting their preference would be to sign Mykhaylo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk this January.

“Pulisic was already on Man United’s list in the summer, but Chelsea didn’t want to loan him out at that time,” Romano explained.

“His future depends on the proposals, at the moment the situation is still quiet; Arsenal’s priority remains Mudryk for January but it’s still early.”

More Stories / Latest News

If a deal for Mudryk doesn’t work out for the Gunners, there could be a decent argument for looking into signing Pulisic as an alternative.

The former Borussia Dortmund man could still have an impact for a top Premier League club, and at the very least he’d give Mikel Arteta a bit more depth up front over a long and challenging season.

€120M Tottenham star a surprise target for European giants next summer

€120M Tottenham star a surprise target for European giants next summer

Tottenham forward Richarlison is reportedly a target for Real Madrid next summer with manager Carlo Ancelotti a big fan of the Brazilian star.

The 25-year-old signed a five-year deal with Spurs this summer after leaving Everton for £60M and has not had that big of an impact at the London club so far, as his season has been interrupted by an injury.

Despite this long contract, Real Madrid are said to be interested in the Brazilian and could make a move for the forward next summer, reports Todofichajes.

This is not the first time that Richarlison has been linked to Real Madrid as Ancelotti was interested in the 25-year-old when he first returned to Madrid from Everton – where he coached the Brazilian star.

It seems that the Italian coach wants to reunite with his former player and it will cost between €100M – €120M, states the report, an amount the La Liga giants are said to be happy to pay.

West Ham given advantage over Liverpool to sign South American star

West Ham given advantage over Liverpool to sign South American star

West Ham hold an advantage over Liverpool in the race to sign South American attacker Jhon Duran.

At the age of just 18, Duran has already made 3 appearances for his country and has become a regular for MLS side Chicago Fire.

Naturally, when you’re performing well in a relatively smaller league at a young age, the bigger clubs are going to be taking a look at you.

According to The Sun, West Ham, Everton, Liverpool, and Manchester United are interested in the attacker, but the latter two clubs could be at a disadvantage in the race to secure his signature.

More Stories / Latest News

The report claims that Duran has been advised not to join one of the so-called ‘bigger clubs’ in order to get more regular game time.

West Ham and Everton are still competing in the same league as Duran but are much more likely to be able to offer him more minutes.

Chicago Fire are reportedly willing to sell Duran at around £10m, so it will be interesting to see if any of the aforementioned clubs make a move during the January transfer window.

“Mbappe is better than Haaland”- Nigerian fans set social Media alight after PSG star powers Les bleu past Denmark

“Mbappe is better than Haaland”- Nigerian fans set social Media alight after PSG star powers Les bleu past Denmark

The Danes put up a decent performance but France’s arsenal was packed with enough firepower

Nigerian fans took to social media to praise France attacker Kylian Mbappe after his winning goal against Denmark in their second game of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

After beating Australia 4-1 in their opening game of the World Cup, France needed a win against Denmark in their second game in Doha to seal a spot in the next round.

The Danes proved difficult in the first half, matching everything France brought to them. However, the game caught fire in the second half.

Mbappe put France in front in the 61st minute, showing great composure to finish calmly in the box.

However, France’s lead did not last, as Andreas Christiensen drew level for Denmark in the 68th minute.

It looked like Denmark were going to see out the result, but Mbappe had other plans. The Frenchman brutally dispatched a wicked shot from close range which beat Kasper Schmeichel and sealed a 2-1 win for France.

Following the result, fans took to social media to praise France and Mbappe for the result, whilst others chose to compare the 23-year-old forward to Manchester City forward Erling Haaland.
