Mexican Boxer Threatens Messi For Kicking Mexico’s Jersey After Win

Mexican Boxer Threatens Messi For Kicking Mexico’s Jersey After Win

Saul ‘Canelo’ lvarez, a Mexican boxer, has issued a warning to Lionel Messi, the captain of Argentina, for allegedly disrespecting Mexico’s jersey following their victory on Saturday night.

Argentina defeated Mexico 2-0 in their second Group C encounter at the FIFA 2022 World Cup in Qatar thanks to goals from Messi and Enzo Fernandez.

During their celebration in the dressing room, according to footage, Messi slightly kicked a Mexican jersey exchanged with him on the floor.

CNN reports that the Mexican box tweeted that Messi did not have respect for Mexico’s jersey and flag, by cleaning the floor with them.

“Did you see Messi cleaning the floor with our shirt and flag????” Álvarez tweeted.

However, there was no sign that Messi kicked the shirt intentionally, instead appearing to do it accidentally as he took off his football boots.

“He better pray to God that I don’t find him!!” Álvarez added in another tweet, with a series of angry emojis.

“Just like I respect Argentina, he has to respect Mexico! I’m not talking about the country as a whole, just about the bulls**t that Messi pulled.”

Álvarez, defending his frustration against Messi, said “It’s one thing them being better than us (in football), it’s another thing to have respect.”

Meanwhile, Messi’s former Argentina teammate Sergio Agüero has reacted to Álvarez on Twitter, saying, “Mr Canelo, don’t look for excuses or problems, surely you don’t know about football and what happens in a changing room.”

5 Tips To Win At The French Online Casino

The online gambling sector has become one of the fastest-growing industries on the market today. You will find a wide range of real money online casinos from different parts of the world like the US, France, Germany, etc. that offer various types of exciting and fun casino games.

Compared to traditional land-based casinos, online gambling platforms are more convenient and exhilarating. In this article, we will talk about some of the most useful tips that can help you increase your odds of winning.

What Are Some Tips To Win At French Online Casinos?

Some tips to help you win at French online casinos are:

1.    Select The Right Casino

The first step towards learning how to win at French online casinos is to select a safe and unrestricted gambling platform. This way you will be able to collect your winnings effectively and quickly when you come out as a winner.

Additionally, the casino needs to be reliable and safe. The site should protect your data and other sensitive information. The site also needs to have good customer service and should be able to solve any problem that you may face.

2.    Take Advantage Of The Bonuses And Promotions

Online gambling sites offer many types of bonuses and promotions to their customers. These bonuses and promotions can be used in different casino games like slots, poker, roulette, etc. With the help of these codes, you will effectively increase your chances of winning, without you having to invest large amounts of money.

However, you also need to remember that most of these bonuses and promotions are subject to certain rules and wagering requirements. Therefore, read the terms before using these bonuses.

3.    Try To Play As Much Free Games As You Can

While this is quite obvious advice, it is often overlooked. Most online gambling sites have a separate section of games that you can play for free. By playing these free games, you will be able to practice different gambling strategies based on the results you get.

Once you get comfortable, you can start gambling real money on the paid versions of the game. This way you will have a clear direction and be able to apply all the betting strategies that you practiced in the free games.

4.    Opt For Games With Low House Edge

Apart from free games, look for games with low house edges. The house edge is defined as the statistical benefit the gambling site has over bettors. If you want to improve your winning chances, look for games that have the lowest house edge for your bets.

Games with a low house edge mean that you get to keep your plays and bets always in your favor. In turn, you will better your winning chances.

5.    Bankroll Management Is Very Important

Once you start playing for real money, it becomes important that you start managing your bankroll, especially if you are betting small amounts of cash. If you can manage your bankroll, you can easily win big. You will optimize the value of your wins and also enjoy extended hours of gameplay.

For the best bankroll management, you need to set a limit to your entire budget. It is always better that you do not spend more than what you can afford. You need to start planning the amount of money you can afford to lose and dictate the stake amounts accordingly.

World Cup: He’s incredible – Morocco coach, Regragui hails Chelsea winger after win over Belgium

Morocco coach, Walid Regragui, has heaped praises on Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech following his impressive display against Belgium on Sunday.

Regragui said that Ziyech was incredible for Morocco against Belgium, adding that the former Ajax star can die for the team if he is shown love.

Ziyech was impressive as Morocco defeated Belgium thanks to goals from Abdelhamid Sabiri and Zakaria Aboukhlal.

“You know this guy [Ziyech], he is incredible,” Regragui said at his post-match press conference.

“The spirit, when he came back into the national team, it came back. What a lot of people say about him is that he is a crazy guy, a difficult guy to manage, and he can’t help the team.

“But for me, what I see is that when you give him love and confidence, he can die for you. And that’s what I give him.

“And you see he is a different player with the national team. He is our leader. The role of the coach is to give him confidence, the same with the staff.”

World Cup 2022 : Nigeria legend reveals what he loves about Morocco’s win v Belgium

The Atlas Lions of Morocco pulled off a huge shock in a World Cup Group F clash at the Al Thumama Stadium on Sunday by beating Belgium 2-0 courtesy of goals from Abdelhamid Sabiri and Zakaria Aboukhlal.

With their victory over the European nation, Morocco only need to avoid suffering a defeat in their final group game against Canada to be sure of progressing to the last sixteen of the tournament.

The African side thought they had opened the scoring late in the first half through Hakim Ziyech  but the goal was chalked off for offside after a VAR review.

Seventeen minutes from time, Sabiri became the first player to score from a direct freekick at the 2022 World Cup, and Aboukhlal sealed the win when he fired into the top corner in stoppage time.

Three-time World Cupper and Nigeria legend Austin Okocha, who was on punditry duties for SuperSport, revealed shortly after the game that he loved the Atlas Lions’ win because of the way they managed the game after taking the lead.

Okocha said : “It’s a well deserved win today and what I love about the win is after they scored they managed the game – the way they defended in numbers, the way they took responsibility to make sure that this Belgium team does not get anything against them today.

“I am overwhelmed with joy and I think we will  say congratulations to Morocco.”

Morocco will wrap up group play on Thursday evening with a game against Ike Ugbo’s Canada at the Al Thumama Stadium, Doha.

Qatar 2022: Costa Rica Bounce Back With Win Against Japan

Qatar 2022: Costa Rica Bounce Back With Win Against Japan

Japan lost 1-0 to Costa Rica in their second Group E fixture of the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Sunday.

Ritsu Doan had an early chance to score for Japan in the third minute but he volleyed the shot wide.

Costa Rica Joel Campbell fired over the Japanese keeper’s cross bar in the 35th minute from range.

Yasuhito Endo’s header was well handled by Keylor Navas two minutes after the second half resumed.

Costa Rica had a rare entry into Japan’s 18 yard box in the 56th minute when Campbell sent an indirect free kick into the area but it didn’t yield any results.

Yuki Soma sent a free kick sailing over the Costa Rican post in the 63rd minute without troubling Navas in goal.

Daichi Kamada slammed a free kick into the wall on the edge of the box after Junya Ito was fouled.

Keysher Fuller scored for Costa Rica with their first shot on target at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

The Samurai Blue of Japan will play Spain on Thursday, December 1 in their third Group game.

Davis Cup: Canada to face Australia in final after Felix Auger-Aliassime inspires win over Italy | Tennis News

Davis Cup: Canada to face Australia in final after Felix Auger-Aliassime inspires win over Italy | Tennis News

Canada claimed a hard-fought win over Italy to set up a meeting with Australia in the Davis Cup final in Malaga.

Lorenzo Sonego had given the Italians the upper hand with a 7-6(4) 6-7(5) 6-4 victory over Denis Shapovalov in the opening singles match, which lasted over three hours and ended with a disappointing double fault by the world number 18.

However, Felix Auger-Aliassime had a much easier time on court as he beat Lorenzo Musetti 6-3 6-4 to level things for Canada and take the semi-final contest to a decisive doubles.

World number six Auger-Aliassime then teamed up with Vasek Pospisil to complete a remarkable comeback for the Canadians as the pair ground out a 7-6 (2) 7-5 success over Matteo Berrettini and Fabio Fognini to book a place against Australia in Sunday’s showdown.

Down an early break in the first set, Auger-Aliassime let out a triumphant roar as he converted a break point with a forehand winner in the sixth game and never took his foot off the gas, sealing the tiebreak with an ace.

Auger-Aliassime, sixth in the singles rankings, harnessed his powerful serve to fend off three break points in the final game and celebrated with a chest bump with Pospisil, who excelled at the competition despite beginning the week without any clothes after his bags were lost en route from a Challenger Tour event.

Image:
Auger-Aliassime won both of his Davis Cup matches on Saturday

“Davis Cup is always a wild week and I would say the most fun, as a player,” Pospisil said.

Auger-Aliassime was brought in as a last-minute substitution on the doubles team after compatriot Shapovalov lost earlier in the day in a physically punishing marathon match.

“We knew coming this week that we could make some changes depending on how singles went and I just feel like the whole team connected around this idea and there was no ego in the wrong places,” said Auger-Aliassime.

“Everybody just has the clear idea of the main goal, which is lifting the cup tomorrow.”

The Australians had made sure of a first Davis Cup final appearance in 19 years on Friday when they edged past Croatia in the opening semi.

The Canadians will be chasing their first title in the men’s team competition when they take on the 28-time champions Australia.

‘We’re Extra Motivated To Win’ –Perisic Speaks

‘We’re Extra Motivated To Win’ –Perisic Speaks

Croatia midfielder Ivan Perisic has revealed that the players are extra motivated to defeat Canada in today’s 2022 World Cup clash.

Recall that Canada boss John Herdman had revealed he told his players ‘go and “eff” Croatia’ in an on-pitch huddle following their hard-fought defeat to Belgium in their World Cup opener on Wednesday.

Addressing the issue first, coach Zlatko Dalic said: “The Croatia team deserves respect from everyone. We have proven that by the way we have played and our conduct during the World Cup.

“We are the runners-up, second in the world. We respect everyone equally so we expect our opposing teams to respect us. This way of putting words together is not a sign of respect.”

Tottenham midfielder Perisic, sat alongside Dalic, added: “I second the head coach and I cannot wait for the match to begin.”

Qatar 2022: Mbappe’s Double Earns France 2-1 Win Vs Denmark, Round Of 16 Ticket

Qatar 2022: Mbappe’s Double Earns France 2-1 Win Vs Denmark, Round Of 16 Ticket

A double from Kylian Mbappe earned France a 2-1 win against Denmark in Group D and a place into the round of 16 at the Qatar 2022 World Cup on Saturday.

The Paris Saint-Germain star has now bagged his third of the World Cup, ties with Ecuador striker Enner Valencia.

It is France’s second win of the tournament after they opened their campaign with a comfortable 4-1 win against Australia.

For Denmark, who played a goalless draw with Tunisia in their group opener, must now beat Australia to join France in the knockout stage.

France almost opened scoring on 10 minutes after Adrien Rabiot headed a cross down into Olivier Giroud, but the striker could not make proper contact with it.

In the 16th minute Ousmane Dembele beat his marker and sent in a cross which Giroud headed wide under pressure.

It was Rabiot’s turn to go close on 21 minutes but his powerful header off Dembele’s cross was saved by Kasper Schmeichel.

The reigning champions continued to probe and on 33 minutes Antoine Griezmann played a neat one-two on the edge of the box with Giroud and then fired a shot at Schmeichel’s feet from a narrow angle.

With 10 minutes left in the first half Andreas Cornelius had a chance for Denmark only to fire wide.

France continued to dominate and almost scored on 54 minutes after Dembele tried to set up Mbappe but Schmeichel was quickest to the ball.

Just two minutes later Mbappe beat Joachim Andersen raced towards goal only to see his shot stopped by Schmeichel.

France eventually took the lead on 60 minutes thanks to Mbappe who turned in Theo Hernandez’s cut back.

But surprisingly the Danes, who had been second best all through the encounter, drew level through former Chelsea star Andreas Christensen.

A flick from Andersen found Christensen who headed home to register Denmark’s first goal of the tournament on 68 minutes.

The goal seems to ignite Denmark and they almost took the lead on 73 minutes but Hugo Lloris had to save the French blushes to deny Jesper Lindstrom.

With 10 minutes left to play Rabiot tried an overhead kick that just flew wide and few seconds later Martin Braithwaite saw his chance skim off the post.

Despite their impressive fight back it was France who took the lead again on 85 minutes with Mbappe getting his second of the game.

Substitute, Kingsley Coman picked the ball up on the wing before finding Griezmann. He plays it in deep for Mbappe who produced some clever movement to get away from Victor Nelsson and bundle it home.

Mbappe went close to getting his hat-trick after he ran on to a long pass but saw his strike saved by Schmeichel.

Man City Star Claims “Ageing” Belgian Team Cannot Win World Cup

Manchester City playmaker, Kevin De Bruyne has predicted how the outcome of Belgium’s 2022 World Cup campaign will go.

With regard to Belgium’s prospects of winning the World Cup, top player Kevin De Bruyne of Belgium has made a prediction.

The City and the majority of the nation’s golden generation are reaching the end of their prime years.

Belgium’s window is gradually narrowing as other nations get stronger as a result of their influx of fresh talent.

Naija News recalls the 2018 World Cup edition in Russia, De Bruyne and Belgium advanced to the semifinals, and there was optimism that they would try to win Euro 2020, but they were unsuccessful in their endeavour.

The squad from Belgium, which is ranked second by FIFA, displayed troubling symptoms of deterioration against Canada in their World Cup debut.

According to Eurosport, the Canadians’ vigour and aggression were too much for the Red Devils to handle.

According to the Guardian, the Manchester City player made a humorous but accurate forecast regarding Belgium’s prospects at the World Cup.

“No chance, we’re too old.

“I think our chance was 2018. We have a good team, but it is ageing. We lost some key players. We have some good new players coming, but they are not at the level other players were in 2018. I see us more as outsiders.” he stated.

Argentina Face Mexico In Must Win Encounter

Argentina Face Mexico In Must Win Encounter

The Albiceleste of Argentina take on Mexico in a make or mar game in Group C of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Argentina, one of the favourites to win this year’s World Cup, suffered a shock 2-1 to unfancied Saudi Arabia in their first game of the competition.

Despite taking the lead thanks to Lionel Messi’s well converted penalty, two second half goals in quick succession by Salah Al-Sheshri and Salem Aldawsari turned the game around.

This proved to be the biggest upset of the Qatar 2022 World Cup so far and one of the biggest upsets in the competition history.

The two-time World Cup champions put on a favourable display in the first half scoring four goals, though three of the goals were ruled out for offside with the new semi automated offside technology on display.

Also Read: USA Coach Berhalter Proud Of Draw Against England

Argentina had 70% of the possession, took 15 shots in comparison to three by the Asian nation, but the highline formation orchestrated by African coaching legend Harver Renard was probably the difference between the two sides.

Mexico on the other hand need a win against Argentina after failing to defeat Robert Lewandowski’s Poland. The Mexicans put on a rather tame display against the Poles in their first game that ended in a goalless draw.

Argentina are obviously favourites to win the game against Mexico who will be looking to spring another upset on the Albiceleste who may be lacking in confidence after losing their opener.

However, Argentina have a good record against Mexico, securing 16 wins with 14 ending in draws with just four defeats.

And speaking ahead of the encounter, Mexico coach Tata Martino spoke about his compatriot Messi, who was his player at Barcelona.

“The best footballer in the last 15 years, at least. Stopping him, it happens more often because he’s having a bad afternoon than what we do.”

And according to Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni: “We watched the game back (against Saudi Arabia) but now we are thinking of Mexico which will be entirely different.

“But the way we play will be similar, we won’t change our style due to what happened on Tuesday, that’s clear. Mexico are an excellent team, an offensive team with a great coach. But we have a style that is non-negotiable.”

Shot-shy Netherlands must improve to win World Cup – Van Gaal

Shot-shy Netherlands must improve to win World Cup – Van Gaal

Louis van Gaal believes the Netherlands must improve considerably if they are to win the World Cup, acknowledging Ecuador were “much better” than the Oranje in Friday’s 1-1 draw.

The Netherlands and Ecuador sit locked together on four points in Group A after Enner Valencia cancelled out Cody Gakpo’s opener at the Khalifa International Stadium, with the stalemate condemning hosts Qatar to an early exit.

Van Gaal’s side were fortunate to hold off a much-improved Ecuador team after Valencia’s equaliser, having scored with the only shot they mustered before the interval.

The Netherlands will only need a draw against bottom side Qatar to claim their place in the last 16 on Tuesday, but Van Gaal believes they must do better with sterner tests to come.

“If you want to become world champions, we need to improve a lot, because the quality of the opponents we have yet to face is at a much higher level,” Van Gaal said.

The Netherlands failed to win a World Cup match after opening the scoring for the first time since 1998 (v Mexico), as Ecuador managed 15 shots to their opponents’ two – the lowest tally recorded by a European team at the tournament since such data became available in 1966.

However, the Oranje are now unbeaten in their last 15 World Cup group-stage games (W11 D4), and Van Gaal was relieved by the end of Friday to avoid defeat against impressive opponents.

“I think we did not play a good match,” Van Gaal said. “We didn’t play well in ball possession, that was our problem in the first match [a 2-0 win over Senegal].

“All the second balls, all the duels were for Ecuador. There you cannot win, I believe.

“We’re working on possession, and we will continue to work on that. Whether we will make it, I can’t guarantee that. But I think we have several options in the midfield and I can try them out.

“We have lost sight of the balance here, but we can find it. The clever thing today is that we played the match and have one point against a much better opponent, that’s how I see it.”

Having led the Netherlands to a third-placed finish at the 2014 World Cup during the second of his three spells with the team, Van Gaal has now avoided defeat in all nine of his games at the finals, excluding penalty shoot-outs.

No coach has taken charge of more matches without losing in the tournament’s history, with two-time winner Vittorio Pozzo also remaining unbeaten across nine contests.

African team can win World Cup, says Senegal’s Cisse | The Guardian Nigeria News

African team can win World Cup, says Senegal’s Cisse | The Guardian Nigeria News

Senegal manager Aliou Cisse said he believed an African team could win the World Cup after beating Qatar 3-1 on Friday to roar back into Group A contention.

No African side has ever gone beyond the quarter-finals at a World Cup and only Cameroon, Senegal and Ghana have reached that stage.

Cisse believes a string of surprise results so far in Qatar prove that “things have changed” in world football and he sees no reason why this cannot be Africa’s year.

“Yes, an African country can win the World Cup, and I hope that it will be Senegal,” said the manager, who was part of the Senegal side that upset France on the way to a quarter-final appearance in Japan and South Korea 20 years ago.

Fans of Senegal national team celebrate their victory at the end of the Qatar 2022 World Cup Group A football match between Qatar and Senegal at a fan zone in Dakar on November 25, 2022. (Photo by SEYLLOU / AFP)

“All the teams who are competing at this World Cup are teams who are worthy of being here.

“It’s not like 30 or 35 years ago where the big fish were completely eating the smaller teams alive.”

Senegal lost their opening game against the Netherlands but put themselves right back into contention with a convincing win over host nation Qatar.

– Remarkable rise –
Goals either side of half-time from Boulaye Dia and Famara Diedhiou put the African champions in the driving seat before Mohammed Muntari brought Qatar back into the match.

Substitute Bamba Dieng calmed Senegalese nerves with a third goal six minutes later, and Cisse was happy with his strikers in the absence of injured superstar Sadio Mane.

“It’s very difficult to replace a high-calibre player such as Sadio Mane but football is a team sport,” he said.

“Any coach wants the team to be playing well together and we were very patient. Sadio is Sadio and he’s a great player.”

Dia was playing non-league football in France when Senegal was playing at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and he capped his remarkable rise with a goal on his second World Cup start.

“On a personal note, it’s hard scoring a goal at the World Cup and this was very important for me,” said Dia, who pounced on a fluffed clearance to put Senegal ahead in the 41st minute.

“I was an amateur football player three or four years ago so I couldn’t be happier.”

Senegal will try to clinch their place in the knock-out round when they take on Ecuador on Tuesday and Cisse said he felt the team “coming together” against Qatar.

“They were determined today, they wanted to play differently and make their mark on the World Cup,” he said.

“I believe that they will be able to continue in the same vein against Ecuador.”

‘Well deserved’ – Senegal’s win over Qatar excites Okocha :: All Nigeria Soccer

‘Well deserved’ – Senegal’s win over Qatar excites Okocha :: All Nigeria Soccer

Former Bolton Wanderers midfielder Austin Jay Jay Okocha was over the moon following the 3-1 win of Senegal over Qatar in their second Group A match of the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Friday evening.

The Teranga Lions defeated hosts Qatar with goals scored by Boulaye Dia, Famara Diedhiou and Bamba Dieng. Ghana-born Mohamed Muntari got Qatar’s solitary strike from a well-worked buildup.

Aliou Cisse made two changes to the side that started against Netherlands on Monday, bringing in Ismail Jakobs and one of the goalscorers Diedhiou.

Abdou Diallo was also fit enough to start after going off in that game with muscle cramps.

“Finally we’ve gotten our our first win as Africans at the World Cup. It was a good win, well deserved,” Okocha said on SuperSport.

“They had a bit of hiccup after conceding that goal but I tho k they controlled the match and they were lucky coming up against Qatar who I think do not have enough to really punish these Senegalese team when they make mistakes.

“Credit to Senegal for getting their first win.”

Senegal will face Ecuador in their last game of the group while Netherlands will do battle with Qatar who are already eliminated.

Could an African team win the World Cup? Why not, says Senegal boss Cisse

Could an African team win the World Cup? Why not, says Senegal boss Cisse

African teams should be confident of going far in the World Cup, and even winning the tournament, according to Senegal boss Aliou Cisse.

Senegal beat hosts Qatar 3-1 on Friday to get their first points on the board in Group A.

The Africa Cup of Nations winners lost star player Sadio Mane to injury before the start of the World Cup, and were unable to put away their chances in an opening loss against the Netherlands.

But Cisse believes his team, as well as other African sides in action in the Middle East – Cameroon, Ghana, Morocco and Tunisia – should have faith they can challenge the top nations.

Cisse pointed to the shock wins for Japan and Saudi Arabia, over Germany and Argentina respectively, as evidence to support his claim.

“Just look at how the World Cup is unfolding, with a lot of surprises,” Cisse said.

“We’ve seen David bring down Goliath. Japan beat Germany, Saudi Arabia beat Argentina – anything is possible.

“All teams competing are worthy of being here. It’s not like 30 years ago where the big fish were completely neutralising the smaller teams.

“I think it will be a World Cup full of surprises. Yes, an African country can win the World Cup, and I hope that country is Senegal!”

With their win over Qatar, Senegal became the first African side to beat the host nation at a World Cup; all of the previous four instances of an African side facing the hosts had seen them lose by an aggregate 12-2 score.

Cisse had called on his forwards to improve after the defeat to the Dutch. Boulaye Dia, Famara Diedhiou and Bamba Dieng answered their coach’s call.

“Yes, we understood the message loud and clear,” said Dia, when asked by Stats Perform if he felt the Senegal forwards had done what was asked of them.

“We were not efficient against the Netherlands. We had lots of scoring chances, we should have put some away.

“The coach honed in on this: efficiency, efficiency, efficiency. We need to get in front of the goal and create those chances.

“We’re all very happy, all of the forwards able to score – happy days!”

‘Some good saves from him’ – Nigerian fans react to Mendy’s display in Senegal win v Qatar

Football lovers across Nigeria have heaped praises on Chelsea and Senegalese goalkeeper Edouard Mendy over his performance in Senegal’s win over Qatar.

The Teranga Lions of Senegal were 3-1 winners over hosts Qatar in a group A matchday two encounter played at the Al Thumama Stadium on Friday.

Boulaye Dia drew the first blood four minutes before the end of the first half as he scored Senegal’s first goal of the tournament.

The lead was extended to two in the 48th minute as Famara Diedhiou combined with Ismail Jakobs.

The hosts however reduced the deficit as Ghanaian-born Mohammed Muntari powered home the ball in the 78th minute.

Bamba Dieng went on to seal the win for the African champions in the 84th minute with a well placed right footed shot.

Majority of Nigerian fans heaped praises on Mendy for an improved performance, while some fans were dissatisfied with the Senegalese goalkeeper after he failed to post a shutout against the Asians.

World Cup: Africa Records First Win As Senegal Defeat Hosts Qatar

World Cup: Africa Records First Win As Senegal Defeat Hosts Qatar

Senegal defeated host Qatar 1-3 in the second round Group A match at the 2022 World Cup, to become first African side to win a game at this edition’s tournament.

After losing their first match of the World Cup to The Netherlands, the Teranga Lions bounced back on Friday to revive their qualification hopes.

Goals from Boulaye Dia, Famara Diedhiou, and Bamba Dieng were enough to beat and eliminate Qatar, if Group A leaders Netherlands avoid defeat to Ecuador later on Friday.

With the result, Qatar is now battling relegation with zero points and will hope for favourable results from the Ecuador Vs Netherlands game.

If Ecuador fail to beat the Netherlands later in the day, Qatar would become the first World Cup hosts to go out after two games.

World Cup: Cristiano Ronaldo makes demand after Portugal’s 3-2 win over Ghana

World Cup: Cristiano Ronaldo makes demand after Portugal’s 3-2 win over Ghana

Portugal captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, has urged his teammates to remain focused in the pursuit of their goal at the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Ronaldo made the demand following Portugal’s World Cup 3-2 win over the Black Stars of Ghana on Thursday evening.

Recall that three goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, Joao Felix, and Rafael Leao gave Portugal the victory over Ghana.

Andre Ayew and Osman Bukari did score for the West African giants.

In a post via his Instagram account after the game, Ronaldo wrote, “Very important win on our World Cup debut, but nothing is gained! It was just the first step!

“We remain focused in pursuit of our goals. Go Portugal!

Ronaldo will now hope to lead Portugal to victory when they face Uruguay in their next World Cup tie on Monday.

Tunisia v Australia: Rare win up for grabs as Group D pair bid to lay a claim

Tunisia v Australia: Rare win up for grabs as Group D pair bid to lay a claim

Australia and Tunisia are hungry to snatch a rare World Cup victory when they meet at Al Janoub Stadium on Saturday, knowing they could take a huge step towards the knockout stage.

After Australia were torched 4-1 by France, Graham Arnold will look to rouse his side for a clash with a Tunisia side who revelled in having huge support against Denmark, earning a 0-0 draw against the European Championship semi-finalists.

That result for Tunisia – just a second clean sheet for the team in 16 matches at the World Cup – has raised hopes of advancing beyond the group stage for the first time, at what is their sixth World Cup.

“We want to get past this round, this is our main objective, and we’re quite optimistic about achieving this goal,” said coach Jalel Kadri.

It is a lip-smacking opportunity for them against a Socceroos side who took the lead against France before being blown away by the firepower of the World Cup holders.

Australia have lost 11 of their 17 games at the World Cup (65 per cent), and have failed to win in their last seven outings on this stage, their longest winless streak in the competition.

Tunisia had just 38.7 per cent of the ball against Denmark and their passing accuracy in the opposition half was a disappointing 55.4 per cent; however, they won a healthy 55.8 per cent of duels.

Australia had just 37.6 per cent of possession against France, and the outcome of that game means they have now managed only one clean sheet in 17 World Cup games.

Kadri said: “We’re playing a strong group and today we have one point, and we should invest this energy we have in the next match as well.”

He said of the crowd’s raucous support for his team: “It gives us a great lift and we’re looking forward to seeing the fans continue to do that.”

Australia midfielder Jackson Irvine, who plays club football in Germany for St Pauli, wants to see a response after the France result.

He said: “To feel disappointed… is huge testament to the mentality of the group and that desire to win and get results, and it’s definitely something we have in us all the time and continue to have going into these next couple of huge games.”

Citing the “very different opposition”, Irvine predicted: “The game will flow in a totally different way.”

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Tunisia – Issam Jebali

Jebali had Tunisia’s best opportunities in the Denmark game, with his three goal chances being worth a total of 0.53 expected goals (xG) out of a team total of 0.92. Denmark’s Andreas Cornelius (0.93) was the only player on the pitch with a higher xG score, having missed a golden close-range chance to win the game.

Tunisia will hope for Jebali to be sharper with his finishing against Australia. Kadri has Wahbi Khazri waiting in the wings, promising he will “get his chance”, with many surprised the Montpellier man played no part against Denmark.

Australia – Mat Ryan

Goalkeeper Ryan and winger Mathew Leckie could both make their eighth World Cup starts for Australia, setting a new national record at the finals.

Ryan suffered against France as Kylian Mbappe, Olivier Giroud and Co made his day a misery, and he will be looking to earn a rare World Cup shut-out this time around.

PREDICTION

Tunisia are given a 47.6 per cent chance of winning this one, while Australia have only a 25.6 per cent prospect of snatching the three points, according to Opta’s AI model.

The draw, therefore, is a 27.1 per cent possibility, but with the stakes so high, victory is imperative for both teams. A draw, you might imagine, would likely be a crushing blow to each team’s hopes of reaching the last-16 stage.

This will be just the third meeting between Tunisia and Australia – Australia won 3-0 in a friendly in 1997, before Tunisia won 2-0 at the 2005 Confederations Cup.

World Cup: Ronaldo under fire after Portugal’s 3-2 win over Ghana

World Cup: Ronaldo under fire after Portugal’s 3-2 win over Ghana

Cristiano Ronaldo came under fire from Liverpool legend, Didi Hamann following his performance in Portugal’s World Cup 3-2 win over Ghana on Thursday evening.

Ronaldo opened the scoring from the penalty spot during the encounter, becoming the first footballer to score in five different World Cups in the process.

But Hamann believes Ronaldo is not the same player he used to be, adding that he gave away the ball during the contest.

According to him, Portugal looks pedestrian with Ronaldo in their squad.

“I don’t think he is the same player – I don’t know if this is match fitness or because he has not played. If you watch him today, the balls he’s given away, he’s never given away in his career,” Hamann told RTE.

“I think he lost at least a yard, but what he still does, he is probably still the best in the air because the spring he has got is unbelievable.

When asked if Ronaldo could still help Portugal, Hamann added: “I’m not too sure. They look pedestrian.

“Obviously off set pieces, he can always score because he is good with his head, but whether he gets another club or where he gets another club, I am not too sure.”
