Victor Boniface Man of Match despite firing blanks – Score Nigeria

Union St-Gilloise may have won 3-0 at home against KV Ostend but even though former Flying Eagles striker Victor Boniface did not hit target, he was the star of the clash and earned the full praise of his Belgian club.

He assisted for his team’s second goal and his overall display caught the eye.

“He did good business especially in the first half”, Union coach Karel Geraets remarked after the Boxing Day win.

“He was very strong on the ball and I also thought that he radiated a lot of confidence to the rest of the team. It would have been nice if he could reward himself with a goal.”

The coach said he hopes the big striker is more consistent.

“This is the player I want to see play every week,” he added.

“That may still be his working point: being a bit irregular. If he can play like this every weekend, it can also be good for his future.”

Fellow Union striker Dante Vanzeir was also full of praise for Boniface, who is on the Super Eagles radar.

“Victor is certainly a good replacement for Undav, although he is a different type. He has his qualities and he has shown that more and more in recent weeks,” he saluted.

“With an assist now and in the previous match against Ostend and a goal “It’s nice if he can boost his goals and assists. We’re going to have a lot of fun with him this season.” Union are second on the table with 37 points from 18 matches, nine points behind leaders Genk.
