As stressed above, the first of the World Cup semi-final fixtures will be played on December 13th. This game will kick off at 10 PM in Qatar, which means that it will begin at 7 PM, UK time. The host stadium is the Lusail Iconic Stadium in Lusail, which will actually be the host stadium for the World Cup finals too.
This means that the other semi-final will be played on December 14th, and the scheduled kick-off time for this one is also 10 PM in Qatar. As a reminder, this is 7 PM in the United Kingdom. And the host stadium for this particular match is the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor. This stadium has a capacity of 60,000, making it the second-largest out of all of the host stadiums. Of course, this is somewhat appropriate given that this is the world’s semi-final stage of the biggest sporting event.

As is the case when you get to the knockout stages of the World Cup, only one team from each game can progress through to the next round. And this means that two teams from the World Cup semi-final fixtures will lose, and two teams will obviously win. France vs Brazil – World Cup 1958 in Sweden
While this semi-final duel wasn’t as exciting as the other two on our list since it ended with a 5-2 win for Brazil, it marked the arrival of one of the best players in history. Although the 17-year old Pele, once a shoe-shiner, already scored his first goal earlier at the tournament, this was the game after which the world knew they are witnessing greatness.
After the first half in which Brazil took a 2-1 lead, Pele stepped on the big scene in the second half and scored a hat-trick in just 23 minutes, securing his name in history as a teenager and his team’s place in the final, which they will go on to win by beating Sweden again 5-2, with a couple of braces from Pele.
West Germany vs. France – World Cup 1982 in Spain
Probably one of the most exciting semi finals in World Cup history, the duel between West Germany and France saw six goals being scored, four of which were scored in the overtime. The first 90 minutes were more timid, ending 1-1 after goals by Littbarski and Platini.
Once the overtime began, France went on the attack and they managed to score a couple of goals, seemingly closing the game. However, West Germany pulled back and the game went to penalties, where the Germans were more composed and secured their spot in the final.
Italy vs. West Germany – World Cup 1970 in Mexico
Estadio Azteca was the ground of many memorable matches, including the semi final duel between Italy and West Germany in 1970. The two teams exchanged many blows in this game, but Italy was the one to draw first blood with an eighth minute goal by Boninsecna. And it was nearly enough to get the Italins to the final, but West Germany managed to score in the final minutes of the match to sent it to overtime.
After that, it was a goal bonanza in overtime. First Muller gave Germany the lead, but Burgnich and Riva turned things around. Muller once again scored to level the game, but Rivera then scored what proved to be the winning goal in 101st minute of the match.
